VP of Engineering - Data
Data and Analytics is a fast-growing, central organization with a mission of making Spotify a truly “data-first” company. We tackle data-intensive research questions, design and build analytical platforms and applications, and cultivate a data-literate culture across the company. We are made up of research and data scientists, data and machine learning engineers, data visualization designers, front-end and back-end developers, project managers, knowledge managers, product owners, and consultants and strategists. We aspire to be the leading analytics organization in the world.
A challenge we face at the moment is building and growing a world-class engineering organization uniquely suited to our mission. Recognizing that this is still largely uncharted terrain, this could well mean inventing something brand new.
What We’re Looking For
We’re searching for someone to lead our New York- and Stockholm-based technology organisation (we call them tribes).
To be successful, you have experience in the following areas:
- Motivation – You are someone who has a deep appreciation for the role that data and insights can play at a company like Spotify, and you can share this passion to motivate the team and the wider organisation.
- Technical Leadership – You can go deep on big data, analytics, and complex software engineering concepts. You have experience building both systems and processes at scale. Our stack is a mix of batch and realtime, with Hadoop, Python and Crunch living alongside Spark, Kafka, and Apache Beam and others.
- People Leadership – You’ve also got a track record on the people side, building and leading engineering teams in an agile environment. You have a nose for good culture and are able to foster and grow people and teams. Developing leadership and building great managers managers is second nature to you. Ideally, you have been through hyper growth, and have experience with an 60+ person organisation.
You will be responsible for leading a fast-growing engineering organization, working a mission central to Spotify’s success. You will work closely with research, business, product, and design teams, to deliver data, tools and insights that advance our mission to be a data-driven company, and ultimately guide the future of music.
