Idle Warship’s Habits of the Heart – Exclusive Album Premiere on Spotify

We’re excited to announce that Spotify users will the first to get their hands on Habits of the Heart from Idle Warship. A collaboration between hip-hop luminary Talib Kweli and critically acclaimed soulful singer and songwriter Res, Idle Warship is a genre-bending musical project born out of sheer experimentation and unbridled creative expression.

Offering a hybrid of influences - flashes of soul, hip-hop, rock, alternative and electronic - Habits of the Heart features guest spots from Jean Grae, Jay Knocka, Chester French, Michelle Williams and John Forte.

The 12-track album, the group’s first official collection of songs, is now streaming in its entirety on Spotify. This exciting partnership marks the first time that Spotify U.S. has debuted an album weeks ahead of its release date, scheduled for November 1st.

First of all what a wonderful surprise!! Its a smart, fresh album title with a vivid cover. I know I'm going to get soul, creativity and current consciousness before I even listen. I was listening to Cee-lo, Closet Freak when the ad streamed on Spotify, so it was a wonderful segue instrumentally. TOP SONG on the album was Beautifully Bad (is this the song from the ad?). Talib's dripping paced lyrics are a perfect way to ease into this song. God Bless My Soul is a rich experience and a favorite as well. Covered in Fantasy feels like the start of something beautiful, I want more! It's the most science fiction-y song on the album, if any. Laser Beams and System Addict are a set of very jammin' party songs as well. Rat Race has the most biting, current and potent lyrics but the hook is a bit commercial sounding (slightly soft for the lyric that we make our own rules)...on the verge of kid pop, from my perspective. The Floor also slightly misses the mark for me, sounding a bit too dance track-y. Overall the album is mix of political, love and dance songs that stand a bit independent of each other. Would love to feel more chemistry between the artists like in Beautifully Bad. Love that there was new creativity and perspective there (which we can always expect from Res and Talib) and thank you for the listening party!!!
