It’s all good news at the moment. First, we become better friends with Facebook. Now we’re opening up Spotify to everyone – no invite needed to use our free service.
So if any of your friends have been waiting patiently for an invite, please tell them to come and sign up now.
All free accounts to be called ‘Spotify’
From now, everybody who listens to Spotify for free will simply have a Spotify account.
All Spotify accounts come with a 6-month time-limit honeymoon. During this time, there’s no limit to the amount of music you can enjoy on your computer. You’ll still hear ads, but you can listen for as long as you like.
After 6 months, you’ll be limited to 10 hours of streaming a month and a 5-play limit for any individual track. Unless, of course, you’ve subscribed by then!
Want a free trial for Spotify Premium?
Like to try Spotify on your cellphone for free? For our no-obligation 48-hour free trial, please click here.
Any changes to the paid accounts?
No, there’ll be no change for paying subscribers – Spotify Unlimited and Spotify Premium will carry on giving joy as normal.
Happy listening!
Any questions, please take a look at our Help section.

1. I am a U.S. user and recently registered a Spotify Free account but it did not come with the 6-month time-limit honeymoon. 2. The 48-hour free trial for Spotify premium link does not work! 3. You website is broken. Click on the article "Great news for new Spotify Open users" and get a 404 error! https://www.spotify.com/us/blog/archives/2011/09/27/spmarket-2whats-new-in-spotifyspmarket/ Please fix these unless you want to lose customers.
No deceo ese servicio gracias
I don't like
i understand the profit factor for spotify but i cnt afford spotify anymore. i only have alittle more time left in my subscrpition then i have to deal with the free subscription which has all the adds and crap. i personally dont like the factor of having intruptions when im listening to music. all im asking is that spotify would give each listener the same product. just because you cant afford the paid subscrption doesnt mean that ur poor n have to be downgraded. i just think allitle improvement is all the free subscriptions need. but anyways i love Spotify! if music for free! its my daily music on my ipod.
I just signed up last week on the promise of a free 6 month "honey-moon", now after 10 hours of listening, I have been locked out. Is there something else you have to do to activate the "honey-moon"?
How can I get a spotify account so I do not have to use Facebook? I'm willing to pay for a service but not for facebook. Charlie in TX
So much for free unlimited for 6 months... I have been locked out after 10 hours also after signing up after hearing this announcement. False advertisement!
Locked out after 10 hours also and just got Spotify around Saturday (Sep. 24th). Please do something about this.
The past two days I was so frustrated that I reached the streaming limit despite the advertised unlimited 6 month trial. Fortunately I noticed that today the limit was finally removed for me. Thanks!

Ummm hello where is my free 6 months? Don't LIE to get me in and try to just take my money, I want the 6 months it says right here in black and white!!
Really, only 10 hours a month? That's almost nothing! Also is the track lock for the month or lifetime? If it's lifetime then honestly I won't be "Spotify" user for much longer. I've been a user since the European only beta (via proxy), when the there weren't limits, and I accepted the changes after the USA release. The commercials and advertising is one thing, but being limited that much I might as well be using Pandora or Songza.
Just hit the 10 hour monthly limit too... guess I really like spotify :) I'd buy it right now, but I feel like I was lied to :(
i don't like that there's only a 10 hour limit. If people enjoy your their music, they're definitely going to listen to it for just 10 hours per month. I've been a member since your service was opened up to the U.S. If this happens i might as well just download all the music i listen to so i can listen to as many times as i want.
REMOVE THE TIME LIMIT PLEASE, AGAIN...121384427
REMOVE THE TIME LIMIT PLEASE, AGAIN...121384427
This post is just one big lie lol
If Spotify makes ad revenue from me listening to music all the time.. why limit me?Why not just increase the number of ads rather than limit me to 10 hours? I can listen to my music for 10 hours in one day. I guess Spotify will just become Rhapsody with all of the music information but I'll be able to stare at my manage my playlists still, hopefully. ._.
10 hour limit here too and no honeymoon period. the 48 hour link just takes you to T&C's, no way to actually obtain the free trial. Frustrating!
UPDATE: shockingly, after posting a comment yesterday, my 10-hour limit was lifted and I can listen to Spotify again. Hmmm. Still can't find the 48-hour trial download though.
A lot of people are complaining to a 10 hour limit when they just signed up. What is the deal?
I'd really like to see this 10 hour limit lifted. I don't know about many others but I would gladly trade an increase in ads for unlimited music. Though I'm tempted to switch to premium so I can stream music on my phone
I will unsubscribe if there is a 5 time lifetime limit on songs. It destroys the entire purpose of the service. I would rather have more ads.
I wish all the people complaining about the time limit and threatening to just download their music, presumably illegally, would realize that music ISN'T FREE! Spotify has to pay artists and the ads are not enough. Also, if you love music as much as you profess to, why wouldn't you want artists to be compensated? You think Spotify is some legal way of circumventing copyright holders? Grow up! Music is a product and those who make it need to be paid just like I'm sure you don't work for free, at least not of your own free will. The argument that one can't afford what they want so stealing it is okay because they can is ridiculous. It's no different than walking into a store, putting a cd in your pocket and walking out. Why can't you morons get that! I can't afford a Bentley but I'm not about to jack one because I think the world owes it to me! You're hurting artists. And if people can't make a living, guess what? They'll go do something else and you can kiss music goodbye!
I have purchased so many CDs after discovering new music on Spotify. But after the honeymoon period it seems like Spotify will become rather useless. That's a shame because Spotify could otherwise become huge if it remained like it is in the first 6 months, supported by ads. Instead, the attrition rate I suspect will be quite high once it loses its usefulness.
all these people crying about not being able to get money for free. who do you think you are. musicians have to eat, the folks running spotify have to eat. How greedy and selfish of all of you
I swear, how easily people start complaining about things not being free. I read somewhere recently that Spotify is still in heavy losses. But, I have no doubt that a huge user base can turn that around. As soon as I start earning, I will be buying the premium membership! Until then, I thank you for providing all of us free music.
