We’re excited to let you know that today we’re bringing Spotify to the US.
This is a great day for anyone who loves music in the US and, of course, a real milestone for us at Spotify. I’m proud of the fantastic team who have been working tirelessly to bring what we think is the best possible music service to our friends in the US.
The Land of the Free, the Unlimited and the Premium
During our invite-only beta phase, we’ll be offering three great services - from absolutely free to paid subscriptions. The services we’re launching today are:
We’re launching in partnership with some of the biggest and most pioneering brands in the world, who all want to help us spread the good word of Spotify. Our exclusive launch partners are Coca-Cola and Sprite, Chevrolet, Motorola, Reebok, Sonos and The Daily. These brands will be launching innovative campaigns in partnership with Spotify in the coming weeks and months.
We believe that music is the most social thing there is and that’s why we’ve built the best social features into Spotify for easy sharing and the ultimate in music discovery. Even if you aren’t a total music freak, chances are you have a friend who is and whose taste you admire. I’m looking forward to connecting with some of you guys in the US through Spotify and discovering some cool new tracks.
If you’re in the US and you haven’t already signed up for an invite, feel free to do so now - we’ll send one to you as soon as we can. Of course, if you just can’t wait, you can jump the queue by signing up directly for Spotify Premium or Unlimited starting at just $4.99 a month.
Here’s to our American adventure!

Welcome to the party, America! For all you need to know about Spotify, check out The Pansentient League - the world's largest independent Spotify blog: http://pansentient.com
hell yeah, bought premium but can't find the iphone app, arrrrrrrr. Maybe I was to fast, waiting waiting waiting.
Now I found it in the app store..... good luck Spotify
The AppStore search is a bit slow to update. Until it's more reliable, you can download the iPhone/iPod touch app from here: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/spotify/id324684580?mt=8
Congrats on launching in the US :)!
I signed up for premium, downloaded the PC client. I didn't see the Android app in the market yet but got it fine from m.spotify.com and am using it now. I have a blog about music subscription services at http://cloudmusic.tumblr.com and look forward to posting first impressions there later tonight. In the meantime congrats on your US launch and I'm really looking forward to diving in deeper over the next few weeks. :-)
And i wonder... are the invite of european users valid for US users?
Now how about dropping the prices for us in Europe: US Premium: $9.99 = £6.19 = 7.01€ = 65kr UK Premium: = £9.99 Euro Premium: = 9.99€ Swedish Premium: = 99kr ...and after reducing the time we can listen to songs for free, from unlimited to 10 hours. :|
Yeah the pricing now seems a bit unfair for us Europeans
Not only that but confirmed by Gizmodo, American free accounts don't have a 10GB Cap, yeah nice job there Spotify.
Why does america get spotify cheaper AND get unlimited songs on the free version of spotify? Not cool. Just like the 5 song limit.
WTF??? why do the americans get it cheaper?? Yet another stupid and unfair decision by spottily.
What americans don't get the 5 song limit either? This is bordering on discrimination. Someone needs to sue you or anonymous should attack you because you deserve it atm.
Guys, calm down .. it was FREE w/unlimited songs in the beginning here as well - remember? It always starts like that ;)
As usual $1 = €1 = SEK10, i'm getting so tired of this, can i from now on pay in dollars, thank you very much!? :D
$9.99 =/= £9.99 $9.99 = £6.19 On the basis of this royal arsefucking, Spotify, I'm genuinely considering closing my subscription. While I suspect I'll keep it, I will no longer be recommending you to any of my friends.
It's a great day!!!
Agreed to what other people say, if you charged £6 a month here for Premium I'd come running back!
I love it. Thanks for finally bringing it to the US!
So excited to be in on day 1! I'm a premium member. Music is life!
everything is great! Rock on, Spotify!
Cancelled my EU subscription.
what about Canada ? :)
Listening now! Thanks devnevyn for the direct URL to the iPhone app. Let's see how this goes.
ouch on the pricing, let's hope either they increase the USA price or decrease the Europe price. Remember who got you this far, spotify....be fair!
Yeah, is the same thing in videogames 1$ != 1€ ¬_¬'. Why do corporations keep doing that?
yea what gives. Your charging them like £6 a month. Put yo price up fools [or charge us less :)]
So... will the library be the same as the UK version? Or will each territory get different libraries. I know labels work differently in each area, could someone please confirm?
Could you please explain why the US premium subscription is 40% cheaper than the UK one? $9.99 = £6.20
Can Europeans send invites to Americans?
What's the status of the webOS Spotify client for US users, both for older legacy devices and newer ones like the Pre 2 and TouchPad tablet? Thanks. {Jonathan, aka @webOSquire}
As a UK premium user welcome to the world of Spotify. The best thing since sliced bread. Enjoy the music!
I really, really, REALLY miss the UK catalog. I wish there was a way to access the European Spotify catalog...I'd pay extra for that. That's where all the good music is.
Why does the Kindle cost £53 less in the US? Well, we simple have more money. Don't consider the purchasing power of a Norwegian and an American to be the same. Second of all, we've had the service for a long time, the time caps have just been added after 3 years (in Norway). Whenever entering a new market, you HAVE to have some extra incentives in order to attract the customers. In time the Americans will have the same restrictions as the rest of us. In the mean time, shut up and turn on some delicious music
Congrats !!! Whoot whooooot !!! Champaign !!!
Regarding the free plan; "and sync with your cellphone or iPod" - surely a typo? I thought Spotify for mobile devices was a Premium-only feature?
As for the lack of limitations on the free subscription, I imagine the strategy here is to see if the ad-supported business model is more viable in the US than it proved in Europe. If limitations on the free subscription are, at some point, imposed, then I suppose the fair comparison would be to compare for how long the US enjoyed unlimited access compared to Europe. Arguments made as to pricing disparity strike me as rather more pertinent.
I'm a UK unlimited subscriber and I don't have an invitations to send my US friends - why not?

Loving having the service across the pond, finally! Premium subscriber since day 1; thanks and welcome!
I understand that different countries have different licensing agreements and different albums, but the US Spotify doesn't have albums that Napster does, for example Spotify has most of Hatesphere but Napster has "To the Nines" and Spotify doesn't, another example is t.A.T.u's "Happy Smiles" and "Waste Management", Napster has them, Spotify doesn't. I hope this will be worked out, I like Spotify's interface and playlist sharing but the bottom line is who has the music that I want to listen to.
I'm amazed they went for a US launch without an iPad app, which by the way is long overdue. I won't resubscribe Premium before I can use my iPad for Spotify (and no, that portrait-only crappy scaled iPhone app won't do).
Congratulations on launcing in the uk and welcome to all US users - for all the new music on spotify visit us at Spotimy
I love all the people complaining about pricing. You guys were apparently perfectly happy paying £9.99, but now want it cheaper.
In USA NO Bob Dylan, Gillian Welch???? Nothing but compilations? What gives?
So many albums, artists missing I don't know what to do. I was planning on cancelling Rhapsody and Mog. Wish I knew what was up...
And as usual companies do the $1=€1 equation. And this from a company originating from Sweden. I've always defended Spotify when they changed the TOS, had to remove artists from their system due to the record companies and so on but this is a new low. I'll be canceling my subscription until I find a way to pay with an American credit card. New low Spotify, new low.
Welcome to all the Americans, why don't all you non American go wine somewhere else, take it in another forum. This is hardly the place... Yes the price difference sucks, but it's still the best legal service in the world... Looking forward to see it in Denmark (Where i live)
I would like to wish Mr Ek & his crew good luck in the US. I believe all the people complaining about the price difference between US/Europe should not compare with the various geographical markets, but with similar services or with alternative cost (buying the songs at iTunes or on a CD). Spotify, i believe, is great value for (limited) money. Other products and services also differ in pricing. Apple products, for example, are some 20% cheaper in the US...
