Update to Spotify for iPhone & iPod Touch now available – playlist folders arrive!

We have an update to our popular iOS app to let you know about. This update is version 0.4.14 and includes a number of improvements and features, including playlist folders. So if you’ve sorted your long lists of playlists into folders on your computer, you can now finally experience organizational bliss on your iPhone and iPod Touch as well!

The full list of improvements and features includes:

  • New: Support for playlist folders.
  • Fixed: Playlist name is no longer truncated when a playlist is loaded.
  • Fixed: Opening links when the app is not open has been improved.
  • Changed: Shuffle behaviour. Shuffle is now only turned off when you play from a new list if it was implicitly turned on by ‘Shuffle play’.
  • Fixed: Some songs incorrectly ended a second early. This has been fixed.

Enjoy the update!

Hallelujah! Well done guys, much appreciated. This was turning into an organisational nightmare and you've just helped to simplify my life. Thanks

Thank you so much. I was missing this feature for long. The ios app is nearly perfect now!

A very good and long-awaited update...I'm most pleased about the "songs finishing early" bug fix! Downloading now....

..or not as it's not yet available as an update!

Cool, now go for the iPad version!

Radio support? Kthx

What about an iPad version? Considering Wimp soon!

THIS is what I'm talking about! Thanks for restoring faith in you guys again. =)

iPad version app please!!! Will go premium when it launches. Now an Unlimited user..

Great update! But still I miss a function so that you can choose to sort a playlist by artist/date added/length an so on. The songs i listen most to is always the ones at the bottom, so it kinda sucks to scroll down every time.

Great news, and i'm confident an Android update are just around the corner? :)

Any news about the iPad version?

Much requested iPad version still vaporware. Glad you care about your premium users Spotify ... NOT

Quite "Enjoy the update!" .....I would like to enjoy an ipad update!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From the screenshot above, can we double and triple star songs now?? I miss being able to add a range of stars! 1 star = a flag iPad version and Gapless playback next please :)

@amsquires83: Those are just ordinary playlists with those names :P

Is it possible to see offline playlists only or on top of the playlists list in offline mode now?

Nice, I want a version for iPad now, the iPhone app is just the worst on the iPad...

I just wanted to add my voice to the plz gief iPad support choir

Is this feature coming to Android too? A simple "yes" or "no" will suffice. Marketing waffle, secrecy and evasiveness for no good reason is not appreciated and only fuels suspicion.

I'd like to echo all of the comments above re the IPAD app. Can you confirm when this is likely to be available?

Does it support playlist folders which in turn contain playlist folders? Mine just kept crashing when I opened it up. Just deleted it and downloading again, hope I don't have to rethink my folder structure...

Hurray! Playlist folders at last! Thanks. Please update your to-do list as follows: Playlist folders [done] iPad app Airplay support for Mac OSX desktop client Cheers!

Finally! :-) How about the long awaited iPad version? It is imo long overdue...

@vurtual: Yes, I can confirm that it supports folder hierarchies. I have playlist folders as follows:- Artists -> {Artist Name} -> {Album} -> {Album} -> {Album} -> {Artist Name} -> {Album} -> {Album} -> {Album} The app pages into each level. I like the new "dog-ear" graphics on the left of a playlist to indicate offline status. The folders update really has made me happy!

Finally! Well done. Now it would be great if there could be a way to toggle so that only offline playlists are visible. Maybe it could be default when in offline mode?

eugh, sorry about the horrible formatting in the above post! basically i meant multiple folders named after the artist, which themselves contain multiple playlists named after the album.

Update keeps crashing on iphone 3G. Working OK on iPad.

uh oh! CRASH ALERT!! The updated mobile app now crashes every time at startup after I moved some playlists around in the desktop app. Here's how it happened: Mobile app was open and playing Desktop app was open I added a new playlist folder in the deskop app and moved some playlists into it. Under normal circumstances, the mobile app would eventually sync up and display the new structure. However, the mobile app crashed and every time I start it now it gets to the home screen then crashes. restarting the iphone has no effect.

iPad version please, and I promise to talk about Spotify to all my friends. Pretty please??

Update is now crashing on both ipad and iphone. Opens at home page and then closes. Please get this fixed asap - Spotify on mobile is why we pay a premium subscription

Nice update, but I want like to see soon the iPad version, when we can expect?

Nice, but please please pleeeease, give us an EQ!

After updating the iPhone version and adding some folders, Spotify now crashes on startup.

Forget these silly updates to the iPhone version. How about listening to your customers (for once) and building a iPad version (which is not difficult if using MVC software architecture).

Really nice update! Keep the features coming, like this: http://getsatisfaction.com/spotify/topics/lockscreen_album_art_for_ios

Please, release iPad app soon! The iPhone app look horrible...

Finally, This makes using Spotify a lot easier, now I would like folders also visible on the Sonos systems. One caveat thou, it seems that I can't delete a single playlist inside a folder anymore. Also I would like the possibility of moving the order of playlists within the Spotify app for iOS.

OH NO! IT JUST CRASHES after creating folders!! Darn! I had prepared for a long trip tomorrow, and now no music >:-( And before I made folders I noticed that the new version had lost the right swipe function which came in 0.4.13.

Yep, crashes for me too. It looks like the only way to stop the crashing on startup is to delete and re-install, and then re-sync offline music. It looks like the crashing starts if you change the folder structure on the desktop without quitting the iPhone app.

They need to enable, by default, that a newly created playlist is placed by alphabetical order and not at the end of your playlists. Just grumbling a bit. Anyway, the new update looks gorgeous but like other commenters it has crashed on me several times. The idea of browsing through 50 folders rather than 500 playlists is spot on, though.

No love for Android users? We want folders as well!

Really good update, all the app needs now is the ability to sort playlist's by artist and song title, not just date added. Other then that good job!

No matter what I do the app crashes on startup on an iphone 4 & ipad. Tried restarting & reinstalling to no avail. Looking forward to a fix!

Since the update the iPhone app keeps crashing. I can re-create it by: 1) Opening Windows Spotify Application 2) Move a folder from a sub folder into the root 3) Start the iOS app It crashes almost immediately.

Superb! now if you could just sort gapless audio playback too then this would be perfect! No crashes whatsoever on my 2nd generation iPod touch. Thank very much for all your hard work! :-)
