Spotify goes offline

offline-5.png

No, we’re not turning off the music - we’re extending the popular ‘offline mode’ that is available on Spotify Mobile and bringing it to your computer!

Starting today, Spotify Premium subscribers will be able to select their playlists and set them to be ‘Available offline’. Those playlists will then be synced to your computer so you can continue to listen to your favorite tunes if you have a slow connection or even if you have no connection at all. Each computer will be able to store up to 3,333 tracks at a time.

To use ‘offline mode’ you’ll need to be running the latest version of Spotify and you may have to log out and back in for the feature to kick in.

So don’t let the lack an internet connection stop you from listening to Spotify - upgrade to Spotify Premium today and sync your music.

Excellent. This solves one of my gripes about Spotify. Have set my playlists to 'offline' and currently syncing. Keep up all these improvements to what is already an amazing product!

"Each computer will be able to store up to 3,333 tracks at a time." Was that number wasn't set by a White Stripes fan at Spotify?

Awesome! :)

Syncing now. Thanks!

Sounds good :)

Great! Thanks! :D

Fantastic! Very strong feature!

Well done folks, impressive!

Awesome, This is cool, Keep up the good works and I will stay a happy customer! And what's with the funny number?? 3333

Besides that i would prefer better playlist handling over this offline feature it's a nice addition for premium users!

About time you guys expand to new countries... At least allow Premium again in Portugal! Why would you allow it and then take it away? :/

Great stuff. Great work!

Nice feature, Will this be coming to the free user's in the future?

yes yes yes.!

Great! Glad you are keeping the ball rolling in making Spotify premium such an attractive bundle

Great addition! Look forward to giving it a try!

I thought the 3,333 number was a limitation within the iphone OS or something, hence why it was the max number you could cache in the iphone app. Obviously not - where has this limitation come from?

Wow that's cool!

@seanhood This will probably not come to Free users! Due to its a handy feature and will draw more users to premium. Spotify is cheap for £10 a month.

Brilliant. Just shut-down Spotify and reopened it and the offline option is there. How does the updater work?! I never saw it updating or anything. Quality stuff guys :)

I've set one of my playlist to offline, but Dam its taking slow to download. Very Slow. Can't this download of P2P, and this is also taking way slower then downloading on my iPhone which takes a few secs to sync per song.

Awesome. One more feature and Spotify will be perfect: upload your own music so that you can listen to it anywhere via Spotify (but only via your account).

@navsterx it actually updates when you click that big login button or you are auto logging in. Also you might of updated earlier and its just been enabled.

will it scrobble to lastfm when you reconnect?

An excellent feature! Keep up the good work.

The first thing that I did after restarting Spotify caused it to crash (for the first time ever for me). I just hope the update is stable...

Thank you very much, nice feature!! PS: When you are offline, the tracks are @320 or @160???

What is the bitrate of the offline desktop playlists? Assuming it's for Premium users, and a 320kbps file is available, will it be 320kbps?

Juste énorme ! thx a lot !

SUPER! Thank you SO much for this! Now, about being able to store playlists in folders... ;)

@roquen Sorry You Can't use it, Premium only Thing!

@pablos93 & adriand76 - If you have 320 set it will store 320.

Hurray! I <3 Spotify

Merci ! La mise à jour que tout le monde attendait après la mise en place de la version Mobile. Parfait !

@petercrosby: Just tried it and as long as you don't close the program songs will scrobble when you get online!

Thank you so much. I've been waiting for this feature since I saw it on the iPhone. Keep up the great work! :D

Aj LÖÖÖV it!!!

@fewmanchu thx! didn't think of the 320kb question (@adriand76) though. although i guess when i am offline i am probably away from a decent set of speakers so 320 less necessary. still... be nice to know...:)

AWESOME!!! NOW I EVEN LOVE SPOTIFY MORE <333

YEAH! Som sagt... Folders... Please scrollar som en galning!

Fantastic! This will come in handy on my laptop :P Keep up the good work guys, I love what your doing!

Fantastic feature ! Thanks guys, keep up the good work !!

Yay! This could be the feature that makes me go Premium!

How this will affect the cache size? What happens if the songs don't fit to current maximum cache size?

I'm amazed at how you people at Spotify can keep improving this application. It blows my mind, and I like it!

A great addition, well done for trying to keep my business! I like companies that give something back and aren't complacent!

Well i have to say Spotify just keeps getting better. If they start bringing out audio books and then movies and tv programs i will lick their faces!
