Starting today you’ll be able to pay for your Spotify Premium subscription using a Paypal account. Adding Paypal, along with Pressbyrån & 7-Eleven, is part of our continuing effort to make it as convenient as possible for you to subscribe. Paypal accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover cards, you can also link Paypal directly to your bank account to make payments.
At the moment Paypal is only available in the UK, we’ll be supporting more countries in the near future.
So if not having a credit card has been holding you back from subscribing, now is a great time to upgrade.
You must log in to comment
@ture - As I mentioned in the post we'll be adding more countries soon. There's some paperwork we need to finish but once that's done we'll add it.
These things take time, and PayPal is expensive... looks like it will be rolled out soon enough, have some patience!
Awesome, I'll be a paying customer very very soon. Cheers guys, much appreciated :D
I'll also consider stoping my premium until paypal is a supported payment method for us outside the UK.
@ture, overreact much? "At the moment Paypal is only available in the UK, we’ll be supporting more countries in the near future." It's probably quicker to get PayPal sorted out in the country where you're company is based and takes a little longer with other countries with regard to international liabilities, taxation etc. That the goods you're dealing with are probably classed as intangible (ie digital only) means there are even more issues involved. Spotify != your Ebay account.
I so wish people would have patience!!! It's great news that Paypal is going to be available elsewhere. It costs time and money to get these things set up. Wait patiently, people, and your wish will come true...like we waited for the App. and, Wow, what a fantastic app. it is!!! Thanks for everything, Spotify. Don't let them get you down!!!
Finnish user here, can't pay via credit card, REALLY want Spotify Premium, can't you do bank transfer or premium SMS?
I don't see the option... the only available payment methods are Visa & Mastercard. Does my "IP" have to be in the UK? If so, that's easy enough to spoof...
Why the hell do you keep removing albums?? The only result is people going to youtube or downloading illegally instead, what is the point in that? So tired of seeing my favourite tunes disappearing, Spotify is not some kind of album promotion service where the users can listen to an album for a couple of weeks and then have to buy it - that is not the point, some of us actually pay for this! At least keep the albums available for Premium users. Almost all the absolute dance albums are now gone!
@lazur-e: a) Try and behave, will you? b) It's not Spotify, it's the record labels. c) By all means, write/call the labels in question and make your voice heard, but please don't blame Spotify for wht's primarily not their fault.
Great news! I hope it's here for Sweden really soon.
constantine said: "Finnish user here, can’t pay via credit card, REALLY want Spotify Premium, can’t you do bank transfer or premium SMS? " You don't need a credit card. You can pay via Visa Electron, or got to a bank like Sampo Pankki and ask for a Mastercard (without credit feature), which they give nowadays instead of Visa Electron.
Anything that reduces payment friction is good news! More of the same though. You're making it really, really difficult for the casual user to click-and-be-done.
haha brilliant I got Spotify a few hours before the invite only thing started, but didn't realise. Told my parents about it who were eager to get an invite so I had to wait till I got some money together to get it (yes I know, things got that bad that I couldn't afford a tenner a month :/) Got hold of their credit card today and noticed the paypal option :D another piece of good timing on my count :D Thank you spotify (the creators of :) ) Now I have premium access and on my phone too, absolutely brilliant piece of software, thank you so much !
I agree with dboins, great software and service but as the PayPal/Invitation Only move highlights, Spotify aren't making much from the advertising and are struggling to entice us with a £10 a month subscription. If Premium was £1 or even £2 a month, I would sign up straight away and I reckon 10 million other users would. I'll leave you to do the maths.
As soon as it's available in Spain, i'll jump in to the premium pool. :D thank you so much!.
@kryptoan: You haven't understood much, have you? Invite only for the UK was rolled out because of too high demand. Too many users too quickly means bad user experience for all users. It's all about scaling. Furthermore, there is a reason for the £10 a month subscription. Sure enough they could make it £1 or even £2 a month, but then nobody would get fair compensation.
great news! =)
And I agree with ade182 and others: great news!
I was considering getting premium but theres still quite a lot of new songs that arn't on spotify. I wanted to get premium and to add all these songs to my playlist: http://www.galaxymanchester.co.uk/playlist-2007 But the ones i wanted to get arn't on spotify. so i doubt i will be going premium anytime soon.
Oh and I think £10 a month is a good price to pay to get unlimited use and listen to as many tunes as your ears can handle but its just the fact that they are missing some newer songs.
WOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!! Now just the S60 software and i'll be happy!
Hello. I'm new in Spotify and hope to come to the right! I wonder how to change the user name and I happened to log in atoumatisk how can I do to not have those? I hope they found someone who can help me. Sincerely Satisfied Spotify client! Pleace send me email too emmy0702@hotmail.com if someone can help me.. I be happy for your help.Thank you. Nice with Spotify./Emmy
@hv71fans im not too sure what your problem is but this is a blog and you will probably get better help from spotify themself. I would say try clicking help at the top of the page or at the bottom of this page it says contact, try getting in touch with them on there. I wouldn't give your email address out though or any log in details on the blog.
Does anyone know if the Lost Boys soundtrack is on spotify? I mean Lost boys. not lost boys the tribe. i cant seem to find it. i had it on a tape but i didnt get the cd.
Took out a premium month by month subscription as soon as I saw PayPal was now an option, as I've been wanting to try out Spotify for my iPhone since the app went live. First impressions are good. Found some albums on the desktop version, created playlists of each album, opened up my iPhone app and there they were. Synched them to my phone and I have 4 full albums available at all times now. Pretty cool and just goes to show that the £9.99 a month really is a reasonable price. I got them 4 albums in 20mins - imagine how many I could get in the space of 30 days! The only 3 gripes I have with the app at the minute is: * You cant listen to Spotify in the background * You cant create a playlist from an album in-app * The progress bar is where the volume should be - vice-versa I know the first issue is a limitation of the iPhone/Apple, but I think you guys really need to figure out a way around that. It will undoubtedly be putting a ton of people off. The other two issues should be straight forward to fix and hope to see them in an update soon. Good start though - well done team Spotify. Do not slow down, continue to push and innovate.
@becka90 - no lost boys ost, only tribe. Was gutted when I found that out! As for paypal, it's not giving me an option to select it and I'm in the UK.
ah, changed it to paypal now!
Great to hear! I hope you will add the support for more countries soon. I have waited long enough to get rid of those ads :)
well, when i go to upgrade into premium I still get the visa or master card option but no paypal...???? so?
PLEASE add a Paypal payment possibility for Spain. I've been waiiiiiting too long.
"I’ll also consider stoping my premium until paypal is a supported payment method for us outside the UK." That was sarcasm, right? :)
Paypal is great for all those with out a mastercard or visa but i hate paypal. they charge you for things so when i sell stuff on ebay I tell them to send money through a postal order. I dont want to lose money to paypal.
@fewmanchu: If you believe the 'high demand' excuse then you obviously don't understand and you deserve to be paying top dollar - it is clearly a way to get more people to sign up to premium. As for your compensation statement, if Spotify aren't making any money then no-one is getting compensated. Again, simple maths. Think before you comment.
@lazur-e - you may have a point about the promoting albums then taking them offline, because... @drfm - following on from the above, take a look at who actually owns Spotify, I was dissapointed when I found out, just google it it's all in the public domain. Why would the record lables take music off a product / service they already own...
@kryptoan: I've been paying top dollar for a year now because I love Spotify. I'm not cheap like you. PS. Read a little about freemium and you shall be enlightened.
@birdeyes - The record companies don't own Spotify. They own a minority share of 18% of it, combined. The controlling share of the company (51%) is owned by the founders Daniel Ek and Martin Lorentzon. The whole idea behind allowing the record companies to own part of Spotify is that they would be more willing to come on board. It took Spotify over 2 years of negotiations with the record companies to get agreements in place before they could launch. I think it would have taken even longer if the record companies didn't have some sort of incentive.
i do have paypal, i do have funds on my paypal, i dont have a credit card linked to my paypal. BUT: i cannot pay with paypal because it asks me to link a credit card to it.
Btw, my desktop client just updated and now I have the option to have offline music in my computer. Great!
@digithed - yes they own 18% which I was surprised at when I found out. Last FM seem to do ok with no record label ownership, even though they are now owned by CBS Interactive which in turn labels probably have stakes in.
Thanks guys!
I agree about adding Songs/Artists/Albums to a NEW playlist you haven't yet created. We also need a way to edit "names" of already created playlists in the iPhone app.
All we need now is something like the ZunePass ($15 or £10) which allows me to do all this plus keep 10 free music downloads DRM-free per month. Once we get downloads included (maybe a deal with 7digital) i'D purchase 10 years of Spotify if that were possible
@drfm: Maybe you didn't know, but Spotify is to a big part owned by the record labels. I think I get my voice heard better here than trying to reach them.
Just what I was waiting for, Thanks. Excellent service.
Is there going to be support for Google Checkout?
There missing alot of revenew too on no option to pay for a day pass via paypal or even a debt card there not many students with credit cards and the newwer generation are not getting credit cards as much
Is there any talk of a PayPal option appearing on the buy a day pass section??????
Great, now I dont have to use my dads credit card :)
Great, still can't buy it cause I'm not from UK. >:(
