Some new Spotify community sites

It’s been a little while since I last highlighted some of the community sites built around Spotify. Lots of new ones have appeared and some significant improvements have been made to existing sites so here’s a short list of a few recent sites.

  • We Are Hunted have created a dedicated Spotify chart with top tracks and artists. Another neat feature is the constantly changing playlist of the 99 hottest songs in the world right now.
  • Share My Playlists have done a major new release incorporating all sorts of cool social features.
  • Spotify Mac Remote lets you control Spotify using the remote that came with your Mac.
  • FoxyTunes has added Spotify support to their application.
  • SpotifiTunes is a tool that allows you to take your iTunes library and create Spotify links for your music collection.

If you’ve created a Spotify related website or tool that we haven’t seen let us know - post your site in the comments and we’ll check it out.

Another (spanish) site to share playlists Listas Spotify (http://listasspotify.es)

We Are Hunted: Fint med topplistor så man inte behöver hitta bra musik själv, Spotifys "inbyggda" topplista är under all kritik. Bara massa gammalt skräp som man lyssnat sönder för längesen. Spotify Mac Remote: Smutt!

I'm working on a simple solution that allows you to see the latest blog posts from spotify directly in spotify. The tech is simple - i provide playlists which I rename to the names of the latest topics. See this thread http://getsatisfaction.com/spotify/topics/want_to_see_updates_in_spotify_i_have_a_solution

Me and a friend made a pretty basic one, we don't have many features but we are focusing on making it easy to use :) http://listopify.com

Hey Spotify. Any chance you could tell me how the URIs are encoded? Trying to code an app, but it's making it very difficult! Ta :)

There is a real new Spotify community called Spotifm (Spanish) http://www.spotifm.com

For a complete, up-to-date list of all Spotify-related sites, see: http://www.pansentient.com/2009/02/spotify-resources.html

Thanks for mentioning SpotifiTunes! I hope it's useful to a few people!

@danc2005: The URIs are Base62 encoded with a non-standard charset. They represent 16 or 17 byte hashes (UIDs?) that identifies resources such as tracks, albums, artists and playlists in Spotify's system. As such they don't carry any information about the data they represent. You might want to check out baseconvert() on line 1199 on http://despotify.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/despotify/src/lib/despotify.c?revision=398&view=markup for an example on howto convert between strings and 16-17 bytes IDs. Spotify's libspotify provides functions to "resolve" metainformation given an URI. Checkout the example on http://developer.spotify.com/en/libspotify/docs/browse_8c-example.html.

danc2005: Regarding Spotify URI's, please see: https://www.spotify.com/en/help/faq/#link-formats or https://www.spotify.com/blog/archives/2008/01/14/linking-to-spotify/

@noah.williamsson Cheers for that. I was interested in how these programs managed to get the Spotify URI. I've got the track title/artist using an alternative method; not sure how/if it's possible to then link that to the URI. Obviously not (VB.NET by the way).

In preferences, a tic box saying; "play uncensored version if available". That would be nice.

Sorry, link doesn't work on first comment http://listasspotify.es

http://spotifycollections.com Allows you to create a virtual music collection using spotify url's

Yes, the uncensored tick box would be useful. Try listening to "The Fear" with the f word scrubbed out. It loses the incisive impact of the original.

I don't know which is the right place to moan so I call "off topic", but that crucial memory advert is actually putting me off buying their product. And its the same advert all the time. Grr :D

As I've mentioned in one of your previous posts, I have created a greasemonkey userscript for your release spreadsheets. http://wezz.se/?p=38 I'm thinking about creating a similar script for the genre spreadsheet as well.

Try out the Norwegian blog/news site http://www.spotmylist.com We have collected all add-ons and plugins and much more

I would really like to see an app for my phone (Nokia 5800) that can control spotify using either wifi or blue tooth, so this can be used as a remote control. Maybe display what is playing on the phone / playlist.

You might also like http://www.spotilinks.co.uk This social web app lets each member organize and discover Spotify URIs for playlists, albums, artists and audioposts. - La version francaise est http://www.spotilinks.fr :-)

They're good!

why you not add music of dragonforce, have less song in spotify

I'm running a blog portal. The "clubified" blog posts hot tips about club music on spotify, you should check it out! We are also looking for more people to host their blogs on our site, contact us immediately if you're interested! http://www.areyouspotified.com

Thanks very much for the update about the most popular tracks situation. Those links in the post are great as well. Thanks!!

Was just thinking same thing as andyscuff, if we don't yet have an app for Symbian S60 phones to play the tunes, maybe we can treat the phone as a remote control for the PC.

Clipothèque. It's not a dedicated Spotify helper app but Spotify is integrated into it since about a half year back. Article explaining integration here. http://bit.ly/MBhir Version Tracker page here. http://bit.ly/b6aAc Product home page here. http://rixstep.com/clipotheque

Thanks for a great product. Do you have any plans about integrating Spotify with Last.fm to a greater extent? For example making it possible to receive recommendations directly in Spotify?

You should check out http://www.spotifylist.com

dont't know where to write, so i do it here.... 8 hours ago when i was at work, everything was fine, but now ALL MY PLAYLISTS ARE GONE!!!! Every single playlist i've created is just gone!!!! HOW and WHY??? I want them back!!!!

Just suggesting. Have you thought about grouping the songs in more precisse radios, like punk, viking metal, trip-hop, etc? I would make easier to listen to the kind of music you want to.

Great ; wish you lot of fun ; now looking forward to have that festival come down to Lund & Malmo so we too can enjoy ... :-)

I got a question about the playlist linked on the site We Are Hunted. How do You get a picture and a text comment at the top of Your playlist in Spotify. Like they've got on their playlist.

I use Nokia S60 as remote and stream spotify to my phone from pc over wlan/network. This is easily done with dsbridge and salling clicker See howto on this forum: http://www.salling.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=26230#26230

You might have mentioned this site before, but in case you haven't I'll leave a link for you: http://www.freshspotify.com/ Sends notices every time music you listen to gets added to the library! Works great!
