Spotify missing your favorite artists? You can help

Spotify has deals with the major record labels as well as some of the large independent aggregators like Merlin but there are still lots of labels around the world which we don’t have deals with yet. Our content team is constantly working to sign new deals and get music from our current partners but it’s hard for them to contact every label and artist individually.

So how do you know if your favorite artist will be available on Spotify? First you can find out what label the artist is on with Discogs, an excellent resource for finding music information. Then have a look at the labels we have signed, if the artist is covered by one of the deals then it’s likely they’ll get added to our catalogue in the near future. We’re currently adding about 10,000 tracks a day from our current deals.

If they’re not a part of one of our current deals then the way you can help us is to contact the label or artists and let them know you want to hear their music on Spotify. We’re ready and willing to sign any label and they can contact our content team by emailing content@spotify.com.

as I said earlier, red hot chili peeppers doesn't appear, and he works with warner bros. records his albums. It would be interesting if it included. Also asked whether they intend to implement support for a future in spotify lyrics. Thank you for your awesome work!

SubPop Records +1! And Dim Mak Records would be awesome as well!

You have Hed Kandi signed, yet (about) none of their albums are on Spotify. What's the reason for this? Disco kandi, hed kandi: the mix, and so on are brilliant albums! =)

AVEX TRAX is one of the biggest record labels in japanese and east asian music. please contact them!

Kid Down the first Bloc Party album Craig Morgan The rest of the Robyn albums

Can't find CDBaby on your list. Has the contract been revoked? I'm eagerly waiting for their music...

Spinefarm would be nice :)

1. Read before you request. Sub Pop is already signed (can't wait for their stuff to get added). 2. Write to the labels and give them the e-mail specified in the post. Asking here won't help much.

I find it strange that some of the most prolific electronic music from a label that has an agreement with you is still missing. Can anybody say Warp Records? Most of their content was on spotify before the restriction blitz, when is it going to be added again?

You need to be more up front with us on how your agreements with the record labels work before I am prepared to start writing to artists and labels in what appears to be a futile attempt to get them to change their antiquated licensing methods. You say that if an artist is covered by one of the labels that you have already signed then they're likely to get added to your catalogue shortly. This is patently not true since there are many many instances where artists covered by labels that you have signed with have actually been removed due to regional restrictions. What do we do in the case of an artist that is covered by a label that Spotify has signed with but their material has been removed or restricted ("The artist/label has chosen to make this track unavailable"). What do we do in this case? Who do we write to? Aren't Spotify actively trying to get back all of the tracks they were made to remove? What's the point in us doing that as well, surely you have better music industry contacts than we do? I just feel that the likelyhood of the record industry listening to anything we say is highly doubtful given their past history.

digithed wrote: "This is patently not true since there are many many instances where artists covered by labels that you have signed with have actually been removed due to regional restrictions." Then they will come back when the correct label for the region is added. We need to think positive here. I think you misinterpret what Spotify asks for in this post. This has nothing to do with artists on the big labels, but rather it is about getting artists on smaller labels onto Spotify.

DogJob Records, please!

PDI Perros Records

I second the motion to add Avex Trax. That would add a huge amount of popular Japanese music.

Give us The Knife on Rabid Records please please.

I wanna see Secondhand Serenade and i Guess they have Warner/Glassnote as labels (wikipedia) That would really be awsome! And Social Siberia/Jockej http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=78477812 http://www.lastfm.se/music/Social+Siberia http://www.lastfm.se/music/Jocke

Here's a feature I've been missing from Spotify which should be super easy to implement: A "Random song" button, which, when clicked, just picks a random song from the entire catalogue on Spotify. I'm sure a lot of people would find lots of music they've never heard about before! Please make it happen, you awesome devils you!

Drag City is greatly missed, as is Olive Juice, Recommended if You Like Records, and much of the stuff from Domino and Matador.

is there a way to search by label or see all artists signed to a label? Hopefully there will be such functionality added in the future.

It seems the biggest label missing is Reprise records. Get them and we can have Oasis, Barenaked Ladies, Clapton and many more. I tried to contact them but couldn't find any details.

I'll be contacting Capitol Records, you guys need more The Beastie Boys albums. A music service should at least have Paul's Boutique, it's been ranked one of the best albums of all time by many music critics and listeners.

Just contacted Side one Dummy Records for Flogging Molly and Tidy for all their awesome electronic music, recommend you all to do the same.

Goddamn. Capitol is a part of EMI... but why no Paul's Boutique, Check Your Head or Hello Nasty? :(

@cdammen: Probably because those haven't been added yet. There is still almost 4 million tracks to be added to the Spotify library! Btw, I've sent e-mails to all the labels mentioned earlier in the comments. And that's what you should do as well.

There are still quite a few albums missing from the warner owned labels such as reprise, as well as barenaked ladies-stunt, joni mitchell- blue all the latest Chili Peppers albums and the entire Smiths back catalogue there is a lot of soundtracks yet to be added like Juno, Twlight and Nick And Norah's infinite playlist all on the Warner labels

Not to be a pessimist, but the list with the signed labels is already HUGE, and thereby not comparable in any way with the amount of music available in potify. Wouldn't it be an idea, adding the huge missing backcatalogue first (with all the labels signed, it must be gigantic!), and solving some of the ongoing restriction problems before expanding your agreements with new labels ?

I've sent an email to Drakkar, the label that has Haggard, Lordi (*cough*) and Nightwish up until 2004. It's actually a joint venture with BMG, but since I can't find any Haggard (not Merle Haggard) it might not be signed. Oh well, I guess we'll see! Hans

I will re-join premium when the releases from Distortion Records (www.distortion.se), Agipunk, Ägg (eggtapes.se) and Birdnest are back up. My punk playlists are currently still 90% red :(

Please sign www.rappareisamverkan.se that'd be awesome, they even have 600 members in their forums and as far as I know they're independent..

I contacted Relapse records since many of their bands seem to have disappeard. This is the answer i got from them: Quote "We did recently change digital distributors so that is probably the cause. Since it's not available in the U.S. I can't check it out, but from what I recall it is a subscription based service and Relapse is not renewing any of our subscription based services as we feel it devalues our artists music. We appreciate your support of Relapse and hope you continue in the future. Pat" End quote Im not sure about the specific deals between Spotify and the labels, but i hope all the music played on Spotify get the same amount of kickback and every label is treated the same. My fear is that the deals only benefit the biggest labels out there hence the smaller labels dont see any profit by signing up, im not sure how else i would interpret the answer i got. The bottom line and the most important thing though, the more people requesting labels to sign up, the bigger the chance is of seeing them represented eventually, so keep mailing your favourite label/artist demanding them to at least have a look at the service and what it has to offer. Sorry for the long post, i dont think i could have made my point clear in a shorter one though. Cheers

Intresting post tool13, as I said before I had an email from stiff records saying they'd signed up and except to see their artists appear on spotify over the next few months, anyway this is some of the stuff on their label http://www.discogs.com/label/Stiff+Records

Please post anything by hot rod circuit, triple crown and vagrant records if think

Broken Records, home to Dave Stewart & Barbara Gaskin. New CD out in March

Beatles, God is an Astronaut, first Bloc Party, Oasis, Fantomas, GY!BE, A silver Mt Zion...but the history of the bands exist!! We are patience! Long life Spoti-fy!

@tool13: You should write them again and explain that Spotify is a) not a subscription service (but rather a free service) and b) has around one million users in Europe and growing rapidly. Thus it's for the worse to NOT be included in Spotify. I can understand if they don't wanna be on all the new music startups going up every other week, but Spotify for sure is something else. They haven't fully grasped what Spotify is and that is a bit ignorant on their part.

Well, I don't know about artists and/or record labels. But we in Sweden need more electronic and synth pop music :)

- another vote for Sub Pop Records - Polish independent label SP Records: http://www.sprecords.com.pl/

Priscilla Queen of the desert movie soundtrack comes up but with no content - is this cos you don't have it available yet? Also - SEARCH by country please!!! I am a avid fan of a variety of french music - being able to search by country would make this product A++ Chris
