With 2009 now drawing to a close, we wanted to say goodbye to the Noughties with a short round up of the year. We’ve put together a list of the top 100 most listened to tracks on Spotify in 2009. The rankings are based on number of streams over the year by all of our listeners.
We’ve also compiled a playlist with all the tracks so you can listen to them all at once. So head over to the top tracks of 2009 page and find out what was the most listened to in 2009.
This is also likely the last post before the holidays so I wanted to take a minute and wish everyone a Merry Christmas!
A couple of pre-releases just before the holidays to let you know about.
For all UK listeners we have the debut album by Colorado electronic duo 3OH!3. Their album, WANT, was released to rave reviews in the US and will be out on December 28th.
For Spotify Premium users in Sweden we have a new album from Swedish pop band Hästpojken. Their second album, Från Där Jag Ropar, is available now exclusively on Spotify.
Our final pre-release is also for Spotify Premium users in Sweden and comes from Swedish artist Daniel Gilbert. His new album, New African Sports, Soul Café Club No 1, is released next month but can be heard on Spotify starting today. Daniel has also put together a personal playlist of inspiring tracks that he’d like everyone to check out.
We’ve released an update to Spotify for Symbian that fixes a number of issues with the initial release and adds support for some new models. Version 0.3.22 (61361) can be downloaded from www.spotify.com.

Note: A 5 NOK store service charge will be added to the premium price.
I wanted to take a moment to introduce Oskar Stål who recently joined Spotify as our new CTO.
Oskar is coming to us from the successful mobile transaction company mBlox, where he was a key part of the technical leadership for the last eight years. As the Director of Development he helped mBlox go from a five-person start-up to a global 100M dollar business. Being part of that amazing journey gives Oskar significant experience in the art of building high performing technology teams and producing scalable, robust services in a fast growing environment.
On joining Spotify he says, “The Spotify team and their accomplishments to date are amazing. Being able to join this group with the vision of bringing music to everyone is just such an extraordinarily great way to dedicate ones energy and passion”.
Oskar has always been passionate about software and technology since he first laid eyes on the Commodore 64 way back in 1986. As a teenager Oskar toured with the C64 to various competitions and gatherings for computer geeks. Even though the long hair has been cut, the C64 still comes out every now and then…
This week started off with a lot of excitement around Spotify for Symbian but that wasn’t the only big launch this week.
Early Monday morning Telia, Sweden’s largest mobile operator and ISP, began including Spotify Premium in a large number of their mobile and internet offerings. Signing up with Telia is a great way to get premium, you won’t need to worry about going over any data limits when using Spotify and rather than paying for two services, you get Spotify Premium conveniently added to your monthly bill with Telia. Best of all, if you sign up before Christmas you’ll get Spotify Premium for free until Easter!
You can purchase these packages online or in any one of the hundreds of retail locations in Sweden. (Our local Telia shop down the street is pictured above).
So if you’ve been looking for that perfect Christmas gift for someone close, or want to get a new mobile yourself, head over to your local Telia shop and include Spotify in your holidays.
