Almost immediately after launch we started getting heaps of requests from people who wanted to be able to scrobble the music they were playing on Spotify to Last.fm (Last.fm is a cool music recommendation site for those of you who don’t know). The demand was so high that people started creating their own solutions to scrobble, which were cool but a little hard to install and run for the average user.
So today we are really excited to announce that we’ve added scobbling support directly into Spotify, no more need to install any other software. To setup scrobbling just open the user preferences in Spotify and enter your Last.fm username and password and you’re ready to scrobble.
And there’s more! One of our developers also came up with a neat Greasemonkey script for Firefox, Internet Explorer or Safari that works with Last.fm. What is does is it adds a little green music icon next to all the tracks, albums and artists on Last.fm’s website. When you click the icon it will search through Spotify for that artist or track and you can start listening to it right away. To get the add-on you need to download Greasemonkey for your browser (or Greasekit if you use Safari) and then the script.
So for everyone who was waiting for this feature, enjoy!
Great news folks, the scrobbling works flawlessly for me!
WHEE! Thank you very much, now I can ditch that ugly growl-hack ;)
Whoho, this is perfect! Thanks a lot :-)
Great! Again another proof that Spotify listens carefully to what the user have to say and comes up with a rock solid solution! Thanks again for making this came true, folks.
SUPER, thanks for this great feature!
This was the only thing missing from Spotify for me and my friends, but now it is complete! (except all the music in the world ;) The scrobbling works great. Thanks for a great application and service!
this is awesome, i'm so glad you've listened to your audience :D can't wait for more ace updates
This is digital love as good as it gets!
awesome! thanks for the last.fm feature!
Fantastic news! Well done Spotify.
Great update!
this is just great. awesome. though, you have accidentally mixed up the links for FF and IE
Kick ass feature! Also good to hear that it paid off to ask for it.
simonahlgren - Thanks for noticing that, I've fixed the links.
nice, thanks a lot for this feature!!
Wonderful! Now just make it possible to submit tag corrections. I don't like scrobbling the wrong stuff :)
Love you!
Whohoo, great!
A really strange coincidence. This morning I'd installed <a href="http://code.google.com/p/scrobblify/">Scrobblify</a> and I was just guessing why you were not doing it yourself. Now everything works perfectly for me! Anyway, there's one more feature that I'm missing a lot. Since the Lastfm software cannot recognize the tracks that I'm playing with Spotify, I'm no longer able to easly add them to my Lastfm's favorites. To do that I have to visit my Lastfm's profile every time I love a song... Is there something you can do about that? Is it only me?
YES! I just did a little sex wee in my pants. This is exciting news; I'm going to blog about it.
Thanks a lot! Couldn't have wished for a better christmas gift :)
This is more than you could wish for. In time for Christmas also.
Thanks for doing this, I LOVE SPOTIFY!
Result!
Thank you, this is great!
"Status: Unable to contact server (Error 309)" ?? :(
You guys <a href="spotify:track:3R3Q8zNC65TceuNgyB2eZr">rock like a hurricane</a>.
For anybody using Google Chrome as their browser, with the latest version you can use Greasemonkey scripts by adding the option --enable-greasemonkey to the Chrome shortcut and putting the scripts in the directory C:\Scripts (you need to restart Chrome after putting a new script in there). I've tried it with the Spotify script above, and it works fine.
Works great :D
speedy gonzales :) much appreciated!
Yay =] tyy
Sweet dudes! :D
At last! It works like a charm! Thank you, guys. Now all I need is to wait you expand the music library for Argentina, it sucks and BIG time :D
Nice! This is probably way too edge-case to add, but: me and my girlfriend listen to music through a single HTPC, so it'd be really useful to be able to add multiple Last.fm accounts and switch between them. Bonus points if it's really easy to see who is currently selected and few clicks (ideally one) to change. On a completely different note, I had a quick look at the code for the Greasemonkey script, and it looks like someone reinvented the wheel with Url.encode. Just use encodeURIComponent :) There is also document.body.
Congratulations! It's amazing! Only thing missing now is to be able to play a Last.fm Recommendation / Library Radio Station in Spotify.
Well done! :)
Congratulations! Feels like a Christmas present! Thank you :-)
malesca: Thanks. I have updated the script with your suggestions.
This is great!
Hail to Spotify!
I love you. If I could bake, I'd send you cookies.
Fantastic!!! Thanks for this present just before x-mas..
Christmas comes early for Last.fm users :) Big thank you :)
