Spotify Travel Guide: iPhone

If you are a Spotify Premium subscriber with an iPhone or iPod touch you can easily install Spotify, transfer your playlists and enable Offline mode so not to use data traffic. You can have 3,333 songs per device (on up to 3 devices)

This guide is for the iPhone. Check out our guides for Android and Symbian.

  1. Connect your iPhone to a WiFi and to a power source
  2. Install Spotify from the App store (using your iTunes AppStore username and password)
  3. Open Spotify and log-in with your Spotify username and Password
  4. When you’ve logged in Spotify will show all your playlists
  5. Make sure that you are not in Offline Mode in Settings
  6. If your device is in Offline Mode, please try another WiFi.
  7. Click the “Offline Playlists” button
  8. Mark each playlist you wish to make available offline and toggle the “Available Offline” switch within each playlist to “Yes”
  9. At the top of the playlist you will see how many songs are pending sync (that are left to download)
  10. As long as Spotify is running it will sync to make your playlists available offline
  11. You can abort this sync at any time by closing Spotify, but all songs aren’t synced until you see “0 pending sync”.

Now Spotify has saved all your songs locally on your iPhone. To make sure Spotify doesn’t use any data traffic please (while having Spotify open):

  1. Click the “Settings” tab in the bottom right.
  2. Toggle “Offline mode” to “On”
  3. The switch will turn Blue and you will see “Go online within: 30 days”

This means Spotify now operates in Offline mode and does not consume any data. After 30 days however you will have to go online to make sure you are still a valid Spotify Premium subscriber.
