New Android Preview adds Facebook sign-in and sharing

It’s a Happy Wednesday for our Android users! We have just released a new Preview version that adds Facebook sign-in into the mix. The update will also enable Facebook sharing and, for those moments when you don’t want to share what your guilty musical pleasures, a Private listening mode. You can simply activate Private mode from your settings.

If you’re new to Spotify, first-time users will now be able to log in and create an account with Facebook credentials.

In order to install you must set your phone to allow installation from “Unknown Sources” by going to the Settings > Applications > Unknown sources menu. Once that’s done, you can then download the file to your Android phone.

Try it out now! Please report any feedback you have regarding this Preview on our community forum.

Update: This preview is now available in the Android Marketplace for all users.

Can someone install this preview and tell me if folder support is added? Are we able to play local files again without the app shutting down? No more random stops in a playlist after a song is finished? (Maybe hard to check, since it's, well, random)

Is this a joke? Still no Folder Support.

So Mango has been out for a month now but there is still no word about the Windows Phone Spotify app. What is going on?

Alright, just downloaded the latest preview. * Still no folder support * Local files crashes the application

The link between the Android app and Facebook has already been active once, at the launch of the partnership. But it was then deactivated silently and now you release again trying to pass it as a new thing ?!?

As I closed my facebook account a month or so ago I'm not too bothered about those features. But I assume you have added some useful stuff like honeycomb support? I'll check later but won't hold my breath

Is Spotify freaking serious? Why do they continue to screw paying Android users out of folder support? This in un-sat I am about to throw up my arms and go to rdio.com or mog.com or any of the other streaming services. Why on earth would I stay with a company who neglects paying subscribers?

You STILL going down the road of needing facebook to breath? So many people ( me included) will walk away. I shall NOT be forced to join facebook if I don't want to!. Looks like Napster could be making a big increase in userbase!

What? You are planning a new update and there is still no folder support?

Off-topic: Make it so that settings are saved, I don't want to have to tick Private Listening every time I start Spotify!

Facebook pays Spotify to force facebook upon it's users. Facebook money + new ignorant sheep money from facebook is still greater than money lost from people cancelling their premium subscriptions because of this. This is business and money talks. What I don't get, is why they think most people's money is better than EVERYONE'S money.

I don't call this a big update... please support tablets more with a more desktop feel, FOLDERS OF COURSE!, etc... I hope you are working on the ICS SDK :)

Oh, C'mon now. Where are the folders? This is getting beyond a joke now.

Happy? I'm not going to be a happy android user until you sort your lives out. The honey comb apps has a major bug, and no ones seems to be doing anything about it. Show me the code and I'll fix it myself.

Top priorities for Spotify. 1. Create the iPad application. 2. Include folders-support in ALL versions. 3. Pay attention to your paying subscribers next time you release an update. Even though the music-related service is awesome, there is near zero feedback from spotify when it comes to wishes from the PAYING community. I like my music no matter how "social" it gets, I do care about high quality service and products. Also facebook has nothing to do with good music...

Les utilisateurs iPhone ont droit à la gestion des dossiers depuis bientôt 4 mois, à quand la même chose sur Android ? Cela commence à devenir urgent...

I need folder support. Being a heavy Spotify user on android is a pain when scrolling and starting the app. When will we get this feature? Don't need facebook btw.

Do not care about facebook support. PLEASE update the application to fix the bugs and add much needed new features. You are SPOTIFY not Facebook.

The desktop version is pretty great, but it needs genre and year sorters! This drives me nuts. The Android version in completely not up to par with the desktop version. FOLDERS, SORT BY ARTISTS/ALBUMS...These are BASIC features of any music app and it's embarrassing to not have these very simple organization tools for paid users. EMBARRASSING!

Huge fan of Spotify. Not a fan of Facebook. "Private session" is a joke and turns itself off at will. Just let me turn off feeding everything I do to Facebook permanently. I beg you.

Spotify, this is a no-brainer: listen to your paying customers. Whilst social media integration may be attractive to some (and probably a new revenue stream to you), I don't think the majority of users are that bothered and should be at the bottom of your development priorities. I think most paying customers would rather have a less buggy, intuitive app that reflects the functions of its desktop counterpart and keeps up to date with new Android OS releases.

I'm a huge fan of Spotify and paying subscriber. And yes, music is social but sharing should not be limited to a single platform. First of all it should be easier to connect with other Spotify users and share playlist. Currently you can't even locate a user without knowing it's username. And it should be easy to connect to other social networks not just Facebook. Also, the ability to post on Twitter or blogs would help the adopotion of Spotify.

I understand, that there are propably more iphone users that have a spotify premium account. And, as an android programmer, i understand, that coding for the green robots OS is difficult at times. But SERIOUSLY! How many programmers are devoted to the android version? One? Dear spotify, please increase your staff - otherwise, you'll be left behind (consider Simfy in germany - blatant rip off of spotify, but launched with iphone, ipad(!) and android version ...) PLEASE upgrade your programming staff!

Why does Spotify continue focusing solely on features that no one is interested in?! Oh great, now I can bore everyone on Facebook with constant music information when I'm on the move too! How hard is it to get the basics right Spotify? Alphabetical sorting. Nope. Folder support. None. Eliminating major bugs. Nada. It's a joke.

Seriously what an absolute joke Spotify is? Who cares about Facebook integration we want blooming Folder support. Spotify are treating their premium subscribers with contempt. It is making me seriously consider cancelling my subscription. Honestly what a joke. What a disgrace. SORT BLOODY FOLDERS OUT FFS

Er. FOLDER FREAKING SUPPORT!! No-one cares about facebook integration.

Well, can't you just NOT link the spotify and facebook account ?

I have to agree with everyone else on this: Folder-support for the love of god!

This is great and all, but it doesn't tell you how the hell to log in with facebook on the Mobile spotify app. I've even emailed you guys over a week ago about it. No response. A LITTLE HELP HERE.

Ehm, yeah... What everyone else is saying: Where are my folders? I WANT THEM! And another thing, witch I just can't understand why it isn't added yet: sorting playlists?!

Id spotify wants.feedback.from pay users, please add a simple send feedback option in the mobile apps. I will be happy to tell you I want to be able to.share and contribute to lists on the go.

I won't be paying $10/month until I can sort my starred items by artist. It's such a glaring omission it's crazy. I'm ready to go fully into the Spotify streaming world, but not as long as the mobile UI remains this horrible.

Look, I know this is a hard concept, but can you please just re-code the layouts for the android app? It looks like crap and runs like crap on 2.3.7, when music beta looks prettier and responds better I kind of doubt the dedication the platform. I feel like I'm paying for half baked crap whilst everyone else is off on a Facebook integration high.

Has anyone's album art been disappearing? Every time I get on Spotify, more and more of it disappears. And not once have I ever gotten a reply from them on anything.

If you guys like Spotify, check out PlaylistHQ (www.playlisthq.com). It is a website dedicated to generating playlists and also used for searching upcoming concerts/gigs near you. The site uses Spotify (and YouTube) to generate playlists from any artist's latest albums. I found this site through trying to find an internship at school. Highly recommend checking out the site if you like going to shows. :)

NO FOLDERS SUPPORT??? WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? IT'S A SHAME!

canceled premium subscription until android app gets folders at the least. spotify for android as a service is good, but possibly the worst app i have EVER used.

1. Modifying star ratings crashes the app 5-10 seconds later (FYI to others: avoid starring items and app crashes far less frequently). 2. Modifying playlists sporadically crashes the app (30% of the time maybe, more with larger lists). 3. Folder/hierarchy support is needed (but you should know this by now). 4. Need consistency: ability to add to a playlist *from another playlist.* Everywhere, in fact. 5. Ability to SORT playlists by at least (Date Added, Song Title, Artist, Album, None/Order Added). 6. MOST important: the app needs to REMEMBER its position. I can always click home if I want to see the full list, but I'm much more likely to want to resume whatever playlist or song I was playing last. 7. Loading app with many playlists is quite slow (10-15 seconds before usable, OG Droid, but I should prob just get a new phone...). Really quite a set of flaws, and yet I still use it, that's how much I like Spotify. Surprised not to see an update in the last couple months. Need an Android developer by chance?
