Spotify developers win programming awards

The two teams of Spotify developers and KTH students that were in the programming competition Challenge24 in Budapest this weekend won first and second place! Top talent from across the world participated in the 24 hour challenge. The competition included really old-school tasks (programming a 4-bit CPU with punch cards and navigating by stars), to more modern things (garbage recycling) and even some futuristic challenges (designing a galaxy for celestial navigation).

We feel extremely proud to have Jimmy Mårdell, Mattias de Zalenski, Fredrik Niemelä, Marcus Isaksson and Gunnar Kreitz as part of the Spotify team. Lukáš Poláček, PHD KTH, also participated in one of the teams - well done!

If you are a developer, check out the Spotify Programming Challenge in May and also our job site.

Congratulations. When is the 1-month premium trial coming?

Ladrones.

It's now blindingly obvious that Spotify is COMPLETELY out of touch with it's users and WANTS to lose people who aren't prepared to cough up the cash. In 6 to 12 months time you will use the loss of free users as an excuse to go subscription only. The record companies will see to that. I have saved all of my playlists from Spotify and will simply listen to them on other free services instead. I'm sorry but given the sheer contempt that you have shown for your free users since April 14th your company just doesn't deserve ANY of my money.

you really dont deserve them for forcing charges on people....

@ red-kite. You have posted on the wrong thread. Apart from that CONGRATULATIONS to both teams. Hope you had a damned good well earned party afterwards. Cheers... Ishy

Basura. Puta basura! Eso es lo que soys, empezasteis muy bien pero cada vez soys peor. Ladrones, que coño es eso de "has llegado al limite de reproducciónes de esta canción..." inútiles joder!!!! A tomar por culo mamones!!!

Congratulations guys!

I think it's stupid that it costs money to have spotify why not have it as it was before and why can not you just listen to a song a few times completely unnecessary

^^ Nothing is free. Would you yourself let people listen to your music for free? And when you suggested to the people that it'd be nice that they payed for it they would mock and beat you up? Life sucks and then you die.

My spotify timeg goes down when i'm loged out! It's tragic, pleas fix it! Do someone else have the same problem?

You shouldn't get crock sh!t. Spotify is one of the many things on the net such as facebook, youtube etc which was fine until companies 'thought' they could improve it. I was landed that i could listen to all the music i wanted regardless the adverts. For people who had no patience you made profit from but now you're FORCING people to give you money for music which can easily be downloaded - spotify just saves the space consumption on pc's. The fact that we now have limited listening time doesn't bother me as much as the fact we can listen to one track a LIMITED amount of times before it goes premium! You're all a joke, and i hope you're happy with your ratings in the next month and so. Try winning this award next year fellas.

Impressive, but you are still unable to program a Spotify client for the iPad...
