Sharemyplaylists.com March playlist collection

Sharemyplaylists.com provides us with their latest installment monthly playlists.

The Soundtrack to February 2011

We kick things of, as always, with Phil Wilce’s brilliant The Soundtrack to February 2011. This is the must hear palylist on SMP, summarising succinctly the previous month in music; and what a blinder February was: check out trippy riffs from Miles Kane on Come Closer, the spectacular return of Mogwai on White Noise, pogoing indie-pop from Frankie & The Heartstrings, and the irresistible L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N. by Noah And The Whale.

Ben Sherman Playlist 2

Those cool cats over at Ben Sherman blew us away with there first ever SMP playlist (available here), so we couldn’t wait to get our paws on their second outing. Ben Sherman Playlist 2 is full to the brim with the freshest new indie and electro around, from the likes of A Sunny Day In Glasgow, British Sea Power, Caribou, Everything Everything, Joan As Police Woman and Wolfgang. Get involved now!

The Minneapolis sound with Prince + others

“The Minneapolis sound is a hybrid mixture of funk, rock, pop, R&B and new wave that was pioneered by Prince in the late 1970s,” says the creator of this playlist, avante. And what an incredible sound it is. This is where you want to be to experience the sonic mastery of Chaka Khan, D’Angelo, Booster, Jesse Johnson, er, Justin Timberlake and the main man himself, Prince.

Electrofunk (’10-11) dance-able!

This is an absolute animal of a playlist – inspired by Breakbot, The Phantom’s Revenge and that whole French electro sound – full of funk and hip-hop infused dancefloor destroyers. In particular check out killer remixes of Without Lies by Aeroplane, Matthew Dear’s You Put A Smell On Me and Sweet Sensation from ALB, as well as huge tunes from Shazam, Funkanomics and DJ Mehdi.

Alternative February

Back to the monthlies now, as we look at marty’s brilliant Alternative February. It may only be March but 2011 is turning out to be an incredible year for music, as this playlist proves. Check out amazing releases from Gil Scott-Heron & Jamie xx, PJ Harvey, Bright Eyes, The Streets, Nicolas Jaar, Gruff Rhys and Magnetic Man ft John Legend, all available here.

Strictly BASS… Part 14

If you prefer a playlist that’s capable of making your ears implode under the weight of bass, bleeps and samples, then syknyk’s brilliant Strictly BASS… Part 14 will be right up your street. The bottom end is unrelenting on this creation from one of our newest Playlist Partners, featuring tracks by BareNoize, Starkey, Benga, Freq Nasty, James Blake, Cut Copy, Skrillex, Breakage, Dreadzone and a boatload more besides.

HMS Derbyshire: A Science-Fiction Story

This is one of the most innovative playlists we have ever received here at SMP – a real game-changer. Combing science-fiction with electronic music, Afront has raised the bar for what a playlist can be. Read the adventures of HMS Derbyshire as it tackles a mission of imperial urgency in outer space #– all soundtracked by ace tunes, of course. Genius playlist!

Alternative Cupcake - February 2011

Philippe Patou’s Alternative Cupcake has been a revelation for us in 2011 – one of our favourite new monthly playlists. February’s edition is equally impressive, championing ace new music by everyone from Lykke Li and James Blake, to Local Natives and Edwyn Collins, with a smattering of recent classic tracks thrown in for good measure.

Music from or inspired in David Lynch films

Good one, this. Music from or inspired in David Lynch films, as you might have guessed, is music with a Lynchian twist. These are the tunes that help to build his surrealist, trippy atmospherics, so if you’re into his flicks, you’ll dig this playlist.

The Worst Rock ’n’ Roll Singles

SMP is an online utopia for us music geeks – a place we can revel in the music we love, right? But what about the music we loathe. We’re equally united by that claptrap, aren’t we? Which is where this playlist comes in: It’s full of really crap tunes. Some outright odious, some funny and some so bad they’re actually quite good. We’ll let you decided which ones are which.

Hi! I'm sorry I'm writing about it here, but I can't see any topic about latest update. With the latest update Spotify client doesn't hide in tray when user presses X button and it's very annoying. Please return previous functionality of Spotify client so it will be able to hide in the tray when user press X button like it was before. Or make an option in the Preferences so users can turn in on like it was before. If user don't want hide Spotify in the tray he can always press Minimize button (_). Thanks, Evolgr
