Spotify v0.4.8 updates sharing and introduces inbox messaging

We’re rolling out an update that adds two of our most frequently requested features to Spotify. First up is Inbox Messaging - now when you send a track to a friend’s Inbox you can add a short message to let them know what inspired you to send them the track.

Also added is a much improved sharing function to send tracks to Facebook, Twitter, Windows Live and your Spotify friends. Simply right-click any track, album or playlist and select “Share To…” to open the new sharing box. If you’ve connected Spotify with Facebook you no longer need to open a browser to share tracks.

We’ve also redesigned search history and moved them up into the search bar. To drop down a list of your most recent searches click the magnifying glass icon in the search bar.

We hope you enjoy the new features!

NICE. Thanks a bunch!

Great news, but where is the damn iPad app?

Good news!! Thanks!!

was hoping your next update would fix the spam bar problem too - http://goo.gl/qZ0p :( still, being able to add a message with a shared track is a nice touch. just need to give us people groups now (http://goo.gl/s5VI) and tha ability to send a track to everyone in that group :)

Only get error, do I have to do a manual update?

Nice! Looking good! There's always more to improve and add ;) Take a look at this! http://getsatisfaction.com/spotify/topics/favorite_artist_alerts

Seems nice, but I won't know until you update the version for linux, too. *hint* :)

Forgive a question which will seem silly to lots of people: I currently run version 4.7.151. Do I upgrade just by downloading 4.8 and installing it on top of the old, or otherwise?

@gavtaylor - that will be changed as well, requires a little more work but we're on it. @josoder - You can wait and you'll be auto-upgraded or manually install if you really want to get it asap.

Had to disconnect from FB and then connect again, everything works like a charm now.

Nice! I would really apriciate a "Sent"-folder as well. So I can keep track of all the songs i send :p

@andres, are these changes ported to the Linux Preview as well? And perhaps, just perhaps, can you tell us more about when a final version will be released? (Or at least one with local file support, this is the only reason I'm not switching to full-Linux yet)

Now u can't delete just one registry from the search history.

Why does it always take my client a week to get the update??? I read millions of posts on new versions before I get it. Why am I always in the group getting the update latest? :-(

@wedel you can always download the last version from the web https://www.spotify.com/download/

this is all well and good, but I really would just like a quick way of sorting out my playlists alphabetically. Please, please, PLEASE put this in. I'm sick of doing it manually. All my playlists are primarily album - artist, and it's a pain doing it myself.

Next step: connecting Spotify with Twitter?

Feature request: Please add an equalizer! =)

Please update the Ubuntu repo so we can update to a newer version without manually downloading files :)

Good job! +1 waiting for the updated ubuntu packaged built against QT 4.7 (now we KDE 4.5 users have a nice segfault :)

Nice update, thanks for that! :) With the next update it would be cool to see more love for the Spotify Radio section (where's the folk radio for example). And gapless playback please, in the desktop and mobile apps. And more regular AMG updates, there are so many AMG reviews missing. And a better randomization in the artist radios. Cheers.... ;)

Hmm, that hasn't really "improved" the Facebook posting function. Using the old browser method of posting to Facebook, I was able to customise the link description (which now defaults to "This is a link to <title> by <artist>. <spotify_advertising message>"). I used to tailor this to show the artists who were in the playlist, so that people knew if it was worth clicking. That functionality is now lost - boooooooo!

cool :D but we should get to write a longer text to our friends :D

Nice changes, but for some reason you seem to keep overlooking one of the simplest (but most useful) things to implement... Sent box pleeeeeeaaaaaaase??

De donde se baja la nueva version¿?

All good, thanks. However, PLEASE respond to more of your GetSatisfaction queries (gapless playback/scrobbling problems). Paying customers deserve better customer service than being ignored.

I must agree - you seem to forget spotify is a music player in the first place.

spotify for BADA OS please!

Please bring back the old method of sharing, it involves more steps now and one needs to type a user name when sharing to a spotify track. Unacceptable when using the sharing feature amongst spotify friends a lot. Also, a sent box would be quite nice.

i'm probably being really thick but how do i get this update? i'm still on the old one and I can't see an option to update it?!

For me Spotify is over in the workoffice. We use Windows 2000 professional and the new version not work anymore. -1 for us

@antoniogarciamarin You're using a 10 year old operating system that isn't even supported by the people who wrote it any more. Why should Spotify? Do you want them to support Windows 3.1 as well maybe? DOS?

Thank you for moving the search history - more room for playlists! How about updating the iPhone app? Really miss having folders in the iPhone. And Facebook-connection would also be nice in the app. And the ability to play local files without the playback stopping when the app is mimimized.

An "Outbox" would also be nice.

Hm, it would be cool to let us annotate additions to playlists. Publishing collaborative playlists and granular permission control for these would be nice too (at least the ability to allow additions but disallow removals would be useful).

@antoniogarciamarin Windows 2000 isn't even supported by Microsoft anymore :P

OMG, love the updates. FINALLY a message to go with my sent tracks. However, as many people have mentioned, an Outbox would be great, as I'm sure I've sent my brother the same track at least 3 times, not knowing :-D

when will I be able to sort my playlists alphabetically? I have 190 of them and sorting them manually is driving me nuts! It should be trivial to implement - please get on it Spotify developers :)

Like to see radio in spotify

@antoniogarciamarin Your IT-manager should've hanged himself by now, LOL.

ooh yeah, thanks for the update guys :)

Excellent update, but I miss the connection via Twitter: it sucks to take me to the web. Ah, another thing: we must implement the url's smaller than there are ugly and long :-( And since I say that without doubt the worst Spotify is your radio, Last.fm kicks him in the kidneys :-(

is this update only for cellphones? or for the regular Spotify for the computeras well? :p

Nevermind my stupid question! :D

Great! But when is the mini player coming?

Ok, seriously, what is taking so long making a d*mn OUTBOX!! Get it done!

you should put the serach history where it was but it in the serach bar to so its in the broth ways to make it easer

@apecat @jan__ w2000 is an operating system widely used yet. It is unacceptable to upload a version that is not apparent to users of w2000. Spotify is not accessible to all. -1 For you

Nice updates. But the most obvious features are not one of them. The features i'm talking about is: "Artist/Band favorites" and "Subscribe" Artist Favorites: Just like the current star-feature but on artists/bands instead of songs. That way you could have a nice list over all the artists and bands you like. Subscribe feature: Then you should also be able to subscribe to all new songs and albums a starred artist/band releases. Please please please!!!
