Spotify for Symbian updated with local files and social support

Hot on the heels of our update to our Android app we’re releasing an update to our Symbian app which brings a number of the great social and local file features we’ve recently launched to your Nokia, Sony Ericsson or Samsung compatible phone.

The additions include:

  • Support for playing and wirelessly synchronizing local files to your phone
  • The Inbox and Starred features have been added
  • We’ve added support for the Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro and Nokia C5 phones

Point your mobile phone’s browser to m.spotify.com to download the update. Enjoy!

What about scrobbling to last.fm!?

wow!! great update! I need this update, I have many music only in my computer. Thank you spotify! And, I'll wait a spotify TV on spain someday ;)

Indeed, what about scrobbling to last.fm?

Finally, but I wish to scrobble with last.fm so I can be totally satisfied! :)

last.fm scrobbling, +1... :)

Thank you, finally the local files on my mobile through Spotify as well :) I hope you have added also the ability to search within playlists or an artist/song name alphabetical sorting system.. Keep up the good work! Spotify is the best service.

Scrobble, scrobble, scrobble!

I don't want social on my symbian! I want Scrobbling!!

I want to know if this update implements last.fm scrobbling before loosing all my offline playlists.

insanity awesome!

Ok, been trying to install and run this for the last hour and had zero joy :o( The app installs and then freezes at start up. Sometimes I get as far as the homescreen, but the app then becomes completely unresponsive and I have to kill the app manually. Other times, it doesn't even get that far and just locks up. I've tried installing it via m.spotify.com, I've downloaded the app on my PC and tried installing directly, I've tried connecting over WiFi and 3G, but nothing. I've installed, uninstalled, rebooted but with no success. This is VERY poor. Anyone else suffering problems?

Is the password field on login screen in cleartext on purpose?

It's always been that way, daf-fy :o)

I managed to update, entered my username and password then it just kills the app, without any input from myself. I'm assuming this isn't meant to be the case. Anyone else?

Ok, some progress. It seems if I start the app up and then leave it for about 1-2 minutes, it then kicks in. Once it's in, it works fine. One thing I have noticed is it has only picked up 4339 of the 6485 locally stored MP3's I have on my phone. I'm wondering if it's the addition of local files functionality that is causing this incredibly long and wholly unacceptable start up time?

Full uninstall and re-install actioned. Phone off and on. Same again. Will give failedmuso's suggestion above a try. Still not acceptable personally. A Spotify response would be handy. Using Nokia E72.

Nope. Log in, home screen, do nothing, closes app within 15-20 seconds.

Issues here as well, on a Nokia E66 (E66-1 (03)) with firmware 410.21.010. App logs in and either starts the clean install or just hangs. After 30-60 seconds it resets the phone. Have tried uninstalling it but still same results... :(

For reference, I'm using a Nokia N97 (for my sins!) on the latest v21 firmware and did think it might be down to that devices poor RAM issues, but it seems more people with other devices are experiencing similar issues. As klbrock says, an official response from Spotify would be most useful.

I have also tried it in both Online & Offline modes and the issue still remains.

Thanks for the update, but two issues: - Still no last.fm scrobbling.. come on, how hard can it be? - Is there no option to enable/disable local file support?

Hi all, Thanks for the reports of the problems, we are going to look into it asap. As for last.fm scrobbling, it's on the road map but unfortunately did not make it into this release.

So, I will not install the new update.Importing local files shouldn't be an automatic task.

Thanks for the response andres. Hopefully the problems can be resolved soon.

Cheers Andres, looking forward to a rapid fix :o)

I lose all my offline playlists everytime I close Spotify :( And it sync them all over again, not just checking if they exists offline. I can't even play my local files that are located on the phone! It says I have to sync them to my PC... :O

I've got N97 and same starting problem as "failedmuso"

Very good I really like this features

As described above ... latest version hangs then closes. Tried uninstalling old and installing new version afresh. issues remain. NOKIA E71 FWv 300.21.012

Jag vill också scrobbla på min Nokia! Snälla prioritera! Mycket viktigare än Facebook-koppling.

I've created a thread on the support forum. Feel free to add your issues to it. The more of us who raise this, the quicker we might get a fix :) http://getsatisfaction.com/spotify/topics/new_symbian_mobile_app_freezes_crashes_or_hangs_at_startup

and what about windows mobile ?

Great! Thank you, so nice that your love is enough for almost everyone!

It seems like on my N97 that Spotify polls for local files on each startup, which in turn causes the pause. It hasn't frozen completely for me, but simply takes about 30 sec to startup. Having said that, I only had about 800 local files, which I have promptly deleted to speed up load time. Of course, this is an unacceptable solution for most. Let's hope it is resolved soon!

I would really need the option to prioritize my offline-playlist loadings! I have now about 1000 songs in tens of offline-playlists and the order they are synced seems a bit random. I would like to sync my favorite playlists first, especially after the update-reset! (are they now synced in the decreasing order of the playlists?) Also it should be possible to sync offline individual songs from playlists (although this can now be done by adding the songs to some other offline playlist as well). Thank you for the search-improvement! Spotify is starting to near quite a perfect music service. The biggest improvement for the mobile use would be the support for Bluetooth-headphone commands (especially next/previous song). I have standard Nokia BH-504 bluetooth stereo headphones that support: * Handsfree profile HFP 1.5 * HSP 1.1 * Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) 1.0 * Audio Video Remote Control Profile (AVRCP) 1.0 => I NEED to control Spotify from my headphones so I can keep my mobile on my backpack etc while enjoying Spotify on the go! Thanks!

We scrobble. You suck.

@jly I think you ask too much. A simple feature as Last.fm Scrobbling wasn't implemented on this update. So..

please send a uppdating to htc smart phone

i ve got the same big issue too. Spotify freeze for about 5mn at log in. This new version is rubbish. I m going to install the old one.

Hi all, We are working on a fix and hope to have it our early next week. In the meantime, one potential solution is to rename their music folder to start with "sys", e.g sysMusic, syswhatever. This will cause Spotify to ignore that folder and the problem shouldn't appear.

spotify:user:tayshiie:playlist:7JxDGABFuVnptSiwU3XM7U good playlist, indie/electronic music, all rounder playlist, nearly 600 songs, :)) x might like it :Dx

I Love BlackBerry and I love spotify, pleeeease come onnn

Support for more phone please, specially Sony Ericsson c905 :D

I have Sony Ericsson W995, not working with Spotify but want ASAP, can you advise status???

The best solution is to the disable the automatized import of local files.

Works fine on my N85. Apart from the sync of my local files over wifi which worked just once for 3-4 attempts. Thanks for the update !
