A selection of playlists for May

ShareMyPlaylists.com provides us with another in their series of excellent playlist posts. You can check out thousands of playlists at ShareMyPlaylists.com - they’ve got a little something for everyone.

Courtney Love’s Playlist
First up we have we have a very special playlist from a female rock legend, Courtney Love. The lead singer of Hole told us, “I’ve been listening to a lot of female vocalists singing about men lately; A lot of old jazz/blues standards.” This ‘list features classic tracks from some of the greatest, and most troubled, female vocalists of all time such as Etta James, Nina Simone, Billie Holiday and more comtempary artists, PJ Harvey, Mazzy Star and Cat Power. A fantastic insight into the songwriter’s current musical musings.

The Soundtrack to April
One of the tracks of the year so far from Kelis and new audio goodness from LCD Soundsystem are just 2 of the reasons why it’s worth listening to the Soundtrack to April. Comprised of new releases from near and far, this series of playlists is one of our most popular.

Hung Parliament Special
If, like most of Britain, you have been left completely bewildered by the general election, why not forget that the country appears to be on the verge of sliding into political apocalypse with a fantastically humorous pun based playlist? ‘Boys In The Backroom’ - very good, ‘Stuck In The Middle With You’ - even better, ‘Mr. Brown’ - a little obvious, and my personal favourite ‘God, Make Up Your Mind’ - hear hear!

Strictly BASS… Part Two
If your into fidget, dubstep, drum ‘n’ bass or boomin’ bottom end from any other repetitive beat based sub-genre then this is the ‘list for you. Some big, big beats with everyone from Cagedbaby to Toddla T and some creative remixes from the likes of Franz Ferdinand, Editors and Paloma Faith thrown in for good measure.

Download Festival 2010
Here we have a playlist representing the angriest festival of the summer with the best named bands you will find anywhere on Spotify. Glamour Of The Kill, The Urban Voodoo Machine, Genitorturers, Steel Panther, Job For A Cowboy and Mad Bearded Fret Wank (alright I made that last one up). More familiar Download favourites all feature here too with several tracks from the likes of Wolfmother, Megadeth and Motörhead.

Funny Stuff/ Comedy /Standup
“Even more people will not enjoy the CD, than will not enjoy the show and that’s fine I’ve learned to live with that but the problem is that now a lot of people that don’t enjoy the show have a compunction to go home and blog about it and that’s bad because there’s a good chance i will find that blog some day and it will make me really sad” says Doug Stanhope. Don’t be sad Doug, this blog recognises your superb caustic wit and applauds it. If you want some ‘LOLs’ ‘OMGs’ and ‘LMAOs’ from Spotify then this is the playlist for you.

BBC Radio 1 Playlist (updated weekly)
Self-explanatory this one but if you want to hear the best of Radio 1’s daytime playlist without having to endure Chris Moyles casual bigotry and faux Leeds United supportership then this is the solution. Plenty of quality tunes from the likes of LCD Soundsystem, Vampire Weekend and Crystal Castles amongst the usual r ‘n’ b and pop nonsense.

Dimitri from Paris
Sexy and sleek house, funk and disco in abundance on this playlist dedicated to the French DJ. Some beautiful down tempo lounge beats infused with some groovy floor-fillers make this a playlist of real quality. A must for any dance music aficionados.

Latitude 2010: All Artists’ Top Songs

If your off to the Suffolk based festival this summer then this will get you right in the mood. Big tunes from headliners Florence + The Machine, Belle & Sebastian and Vampire Weekend compliment tracks from up-and-coming acts such as These New Puritans, Egyptian Hip Hop and Tokyo Police Club. You can almost taste the bland over-priced noodles and warm larger.

Inner City Blues: Urban pessimism in the 1970s

Another superb, subversive playlist from alexlists featuring some of the greatest soulful social commentary and protest songs ever written. Heavyweight messages layered over sensational compositions by some of the greatest voices of all time such as Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield, James Brown, Stevie Wonder and Gil Scott-Heron make this an essential listen.

Kieron’s Electro Vol.3
Here is the third in the series of Electro playlists from SMP’s very own Kieron and it is bursting at the seems with absolute club bangers. All the electro big hitters are involved - Simian Mobile Disco, Deadmau5 and Boy 8-Bit - alongside some huge remixes from Miike Snow, The XX and Funkagenda. This is the perfect pre-club warm up collection.

Chillz
Well, after this months epic playlist voyage I think it’s time we all took some time out to relax and what better way than with this quality collection of laid-back tunes. Chill-out favourites from Zero 7, Nouvelle Vague and Imogen Heap combine with more underground down -tempo mastery from DJ Shadow, Fink, Four Tet and many, many more. Enjoy.
