New Spotify for Android release

Late last night we released a new version of Spotify for Android. The new version (v 0.3.24) can be downloaded from the Android Market or use your phone’s browser and go to www.spotify.com and select the option ‘manual install’.

New features in this release include:

  • URI support - Open/Share Spotify URI’s to or from SMS, email, the Facebook or Twitter apps, etc.
  • Updated player with cover art swipe support (similar to the iPhone version).
  • Android 2.0/Eclair support. Spotify now runs on the popular Motorola Droid phone.
  • Home screen widget - control Spotify from the home screen!

Hopefully you enjoy the new features and we look forward to releasing more updates for other platforms soon.

Great news! I'll test that right away! Keep on!

Awesome, I literally just bought Premium yesterday and I'll have my Android tomorrow! Talk about well timed! ;)

Everything's brill so far with the update, however I can't get the 'Back, Play/Pause, Forward, i' buttons to dissapear from the artwork player screen anymore like I used to be able to with a tap =( Any way for you to bring that back?

Excellent update, I've reviewed it here: http://pansentient.com/2009/12/spotify-on-android-update/ @afront

Exactly what I missed from the previous version: share function and a widget. Perfect! Now all we need is for Spotify to get Zappa and Pink Floyd... :)

Excellent that we now have support for spotify links. My opinions mirror those of afront's on his blog post: http://pansentient.com/2009/12/spotify-on-android-update/ http://spotibot.com 'better links' have also been updated today to take advantage of the mobile platform. Thanks Spotify!

Can has webOS app?

WTF guys! Still no support for Blackberry AND I found two albums I had on my list now are not available... this is not a game, you cannot make available some tracks and then make them disappear just like that! im sooo pissed!

The biggest improvement seems to be the lowered CPU usage. The previous version used ~40% CPU on my Hero. That slowed the phone down (became seriously laggy at times) and drained the battery pretty quick. These where my main issues with Spotify. With this release I'm down on ~15 % CPU. Great work! :-) Just give us an equalizer, similar artists feature and radio features and everything will be great :-)

An auto-normalizer would be handy to when playing those mix tapes.

Still crashing with the same error on The Droid from install file on the m.spotify.com site I /did/ just get the 2.0.1 update if that is of any difference

I wnent to the download link directly (http://www.spotify.com/wp-content/uploads/android/0.3.24/SpotifyAndroid.apk) and it worked. Not sure why it would have downloaded older version wit hthe auto detection

Shame there is still no last.fm support on the mobile client.

It's now broken on my hero... Tried opening a spotify link from twidroid, had to force close spotify. Now it wont even login properly, it loads the playlists but then becomes unresponsive. Tried reinstalling and restarting both app and phone to no avail.

only thing missing is the last.fm scrobbling and sorting of playlists (same goes for the pc/mac client) fast becoming my fav app on my Hero :P

Thanks for the update. Only thing that's missing now is last.fm support! :D

Awesome update! The share and open URI-functions are aweseome, and the app also feels considerably faster than before. The swipe-function is nice to. It's great to see that you keep supporting Android with nice updates like this one, keep up the good work guys!

Nice update guys. Would really like to see support for bluetooth media controls (play/pause, ff/rw). Currently, using my bluetooth headphones, if I hit one of those buttons on it accidentally it fires up the other media player on the phone because Spotify doesn't intercept the commands. @neeke - try uninstalling and reinstalling.

I've been looking forward to a widget. Nice update!

Hi, are there any plans for a Spotify app for WebOs/the palm pre?

Please remove the new roaming warning or give users the ability to disable it. Some people use operators that rent the network from other operators. In this case they get a warning every time they start the application even when they are using their home operator. It's very annoying to press the go online button every time I start the app. Thanks

North american CDMA motorola Droid is having problems with the app... The home screen and the search function are disabled as the app insists that I'm in offline mode.... I log in into my account successfully... the playlists load well... and Im even able to browse the artists by selecting one of them from my playlists.... none of the songs are synced, I just use the playlist as a shortcut to the artist. Hopefully they can fix this soon... I love the service.

Great to see so many tweaks to the UI to fix glitches and bugs this time (in particular, the ability to drag the slider much easier than before, and the reduction in lag, in particular when sliding the "now playing" tab up and down) - in fact, I think I like those more than the new features themselves (although the big fat widget is a fantastic addition to my home screen)! Couple of points: can't make the icons on the album artwork disappear. It would also be nice to have the option disable the cover switch feature, because it can be distracting if I accidentally knock it. Another nice idea would be the option to ensure songs selected via the cover-switchy feature only play when you tell them to, allowing the user to browse through songs in this way without causing the track to change. The widget could also be made a teensy bit smaller, because it looks huge in comparison to other widgets that supposedly take up a similar amount of space. Just cut a few pixels off the edges and it'll look fantastic. Really impressed with the widget though overall. Otherwise, I don't thing there are too many negatives to be found with this release, although it would be a lot better if the on-screen icons could fade away like they used to. And just so you know, a "play queue" function would still be massively appreciated for a future release! Thanks! @mecatronico77: Because the latest Spotify Mobile news involves another platform doesn't necessarily mean they're also working on a Blackberry version. An app like Spotify can't exactly be developed in a day, so just give them time, and if they want/need to release updated versions of their existing software to make Spotify a better experience for existing mobile users, at least recognise the fact that they are trying to do their best at giving their customers good service. They don't have to release a new update, so at least appreciate that they are being nice and listening to comments on their help forums etc. As for albums being unlisted, Spotify don't choose for this to happen. They want a huge music library, so what makes you think that they're to blame when certain songs become unavailable? Blame the music labels, not Spotify.

@herder: Zappa, Pink Floyd and AC/DC!

@wiiloveit - There *is* a play queue function. You can't shift the play order around unfortunately, but you can see what's coming up and skip down the queue if don't want to listen to the next few songs or something. It's accessible via the cover art player screen by pressing Menu and selecting Play Queue.

@rossaluss: Thanks for the heads up! However, I'd specifically want one where you can choose which song plays next, like on the desktop edition of Spotify, because otherwise getting my phone out after every song to choose the next one can be a bit of a pain.

Brilliant update.. Still uses too much resources though x

Nice, waiting for an update on the symbian version though, cant add songs to playlists!

Brilliant. I love the fact you've released a widget for the Home screen. I was hoping for it.

The app is so much more responsive now. Widget is fantastic. Plus to top it all off, my 8gb card arrived today - plently of music for me!

and still no windows mobile version....

I love the swiping album covers option (agreed it would be nice to be able to lose the icons again) and the home screen widget is a superb improvement for listening to music while multitasking.....this is gradually becoming a very well rounded and fluid app that could soon become - if not already - indispensable IMO the main thing that is needed now is a way to organize tracks and playlists on the go .....i can wait Keep up the good work!

Give us spotify on windows mobile please =)

+1 for WINDOWS MOBILE!

YES YES YES YES!!! you just gave me the best christmas present! Droid + Spotify = EPIC WIN! lots of love! Keija

I love the app! It's way better than the ipod app for several reasons! Now only high res grafics and it'b be perfect!

Hi, will it be a fix for Nokia E55?

Will there by an iPhone update in the near future? :-) Would love som new features, like widgets :-)

Brilliant Spotify, I just love it, this gives "single sign on" a new meaning. My laptop, my homecomputer and now my telephon, wow. Jan-Eric Svensson

Has the same bug on Verizon (USA) Droid as the previous version had with Sprint (USA) HTC Hero: shows I'm offline if I'm not connected with WiFi. In other words: no 3G support for CDMA Networks which ruins the whole idea of having Spotify on Droid. Do-oh. Last.fm and Pandora work ok.

@pekkapee Spotify haven't launched yet in USA. I expect your problems will be solved when they do.

i Would be happy if you can make mobile to the windows mobiles

@digithed I also have an issue with spotify, in sweden, when my android phone is using HDSPA. Spotify thinks Im not on 3G, while I really am. (HDSPA is known as Turbo-3G in sweden). I also sent a bug report about that behavior in to spotify. ;) At the moment I just have everything as offline playlists that I synced over a wifi network.

Still get a message that I need to upgrade through the market... I thought I just downloaded the latest version!

Bah, still no mobile Last.fm support? Without Last.fm support you will miss many many potential Premium users ==> #fail

Please, add controls on the lock screen, like Music app of HTC Hero. I think it's a very important (and useful) feature for Spotify mobile!

Para cuando Spotify en Windows Mobile????????????? Tengo un Samsunug Omnia y no puedo utilizar el programa en este Teléfono??????

Please add A.C Newmans new album "Get Guilty". I would really appreciate it.

Something else: Why do you insist playing comercials in English in Sweden. I think it sounds pathetic with that extreme british accent "did you know..bla bla" If your having a comercial facing your swedish users have it in swedish. Also are you having trouble finding ppl to advertise or to run comercials in spotify? Seems so, cause the only think youre playing in the comercials are for the premium service. Why dont you take in other advertisers? Maybe u should outsource the comercial department so u can focus on the technics. Otherwise.. love u guys! Also, I heard a man say voddler in the same sentance as spotify! I did the only right thing, raped n killed him. Voddler really sux big time. Well thats it.
