Music catalogue updated with 35,397 tracks

Another update to our music catalogue today. We added 2,937 albums and singles a few days back, in total 35,397 new tracks are now available.

A lot of releases from CDBaby and a few highlights include:

Have a look at the Google doc for the full listing of all the releases. As with every update not all albums listed may be available in your country and some tracks previously available may no longer be playable due to regional restrictions.

Let us know what gems you find in this update.

Woop! (first)

Strange that you still dont have one of the most talked about albums of 2009 - Grizzly Bear: Veckatimest. Doesnt seem to be a label restriction - Warp Records - as you have plenty more by them. Album out since May. If you really want to get people to switch to Premium/Mobile etc. I suggest you concentrate on at least having the highest rated albums by Pitchfork/Metacritic etc. Grizzly Bear is #3 of 2009 on Pitchfork and #5 on Metacritic http://www.albumoftheyear.org/2009/ratings/pitchfork-highest-rated-of-2009-00001.php http://www.metacritic.com/music/ In fairness your catalogue is fantastic in general - just need to polish it off. Thanks for the great work.

Still no Muse - 'Black Holes...' or Foo Fighters - 'In Your Honor'. :C

You talk about tracks that are added, but not about tracks that are removed ! Where did Gronibard go ? And why did Radiohead tracks get added last time... as they were already existing in the database.

still need more of the old Jean Michael Jarre most of the biggest songs miss.

@monkey999 - We do have a lot of Warp but they don't license their entire catalogue for streaming so there are a number of missing releases, including the Grizzly Bear album.

Yeah why not note the tracks removed aswell, missing Hôtel Costes X and 11. Still hopeing its a bug.

It would be great if you blogged about tracks removed and reasons to that.

The song Hey Cole Porter spotify:track:3ydFg9KRW91Gpkry7mReNh from The Original Johnny Cash Volume 1 cuts out at 1:03. Tried to restart Spotify but the same thing happens.

i noticed last night the heartwork album by carcass wont play

As it's Beatles day, what about The Beatles? Will they ever get on Spotify?

gabma wrote: "And why did Radiohead tracks get added last time… as they were already existing in the database." Those were reissues with lots of bonus tracks.

For those of you complaining about tracks being removed and asking for a list of removed tracks and the reasons why, take a look here in the Spotify help forum to find out why it is almost impossible for Spotify to do this at the moment... http://getsatisfaction.com/spotify/topics/where_has_the_bob_dylan_catalogue_gone#reply_1315968 Suffice to say that it is the demands of the record industry that causes this type of problem and there is nothing much Spotify can do about this. If Spotify grows and becomes a big player within the record industry they will be able to demand more of the record labels and publishers. But at the moment it's the record industry that holds all the cards.

You NEED to address the fact that A LOT OF MUSIC is constantly removed. And fast.

@digithed - I understand the situation between Spotify and the record industry, i've even read the conversations between Robert Fripp and Spotify regarding King Crimsons music on Spotify and that was not a pleasant read. The thing I don't understand is why one album by a artist is removed, all of a sudden, when the other albums is still available? It's not like they chanced label it just says "This album is currently not available". Why?

Hello there, nice as always with updates. I've got some requests again though. Kind of the same as in my last reply but, I'd like some more music from Seether (especially the song Remedy), Three Days Grace, American Head Charge, SOiL and Drowning Pool. Also greatly appreciated: Foo Fighters - The One (A good single which have not been released to any of their albums).

Any chance of adding "The Samuel Jackson Five" and/or "Emmerhoff and The Melancholy Babies"? :) Great work.

Feltan wrote: "i’ve even read the conversations between Robert Fripp and Spotify regarding King Crimsons music on Spotify and that was not a pleasant read." Hadn't seen that before. What an ***-hole he is...

@feltan - The only explanation that anyone from the record industry has given for the kind of situation that you describe is that there are both record labels and publishers, and while it can be true that an artist's albums are all on the same label there can be different publishers who have the rights to different albums. Even if Spotify have a deal with a record label, if a particular album has no publisher Spotify can't publish it. If a publishing agreement ends an album can be in some kind of limbo state with no one currently owning the publishing rights until a new publishing deal has been negotiated. Albums in this limbo state must be removed from Spotify. This was the explanation given for why all of Kate Bush's albums after "The Kick Inside" and up to "Ariel" have been removed. A 20 year publishing deal on these albums expired and no new deal has been negotiated and so they are blocked. It's completely crazy as they could be earning money for the artist and the record label but they just sit in limbo with no publishing deal.

@digithed - Thanks for giving me, and several others who are wondering, a very good and informative reply. :) The business is as it is and I think that it will not change for a couple of years. Keep up the good work, it's a kickass service and I hope the record industry will come to sense soon. Once again, Thanks! :D

@monkey999 : in fact Warp are quite notorious for being not too hot streaming their RECENT catalogue, so it's like you'll probably have to wait next year for Warp to allow it here I guess. Besides if you can read french, there's a mini-interview some days ago (made on St-Malo rock festival) where the band explains they're kinda "lobbying" Warp to allow their disc on spotify, alas without success http://www.ecrans.fr/Rock-Pirates-a-Saint-Malo-4,7989.html

@feltan - You seem to misunderstand, I don't work for Spotify, I'm just a happy customer like you :)

@gondwana: They should consider a change of label...

hello i'm steve

OMG what legends the good people at spotify are! i asked for Harvey Danger and they duly delivered!

@digithed - Oh, i see. :D A very educated customer. You seem to know very much about industry. Happy customers unite! :)

Hey, can somebody add the album "invaders must die" by "The Prodigy"?

@feltan - I don't profess to be very knowledgeable about the music industry. I'm just passing on what I have managed to find out from the Spotify reps. and the occasional person from music industry who has been making comments and answering question here and in the forum. I have been using Spotify for about a year and hanging out here in the blog and in the forum all that time. A few times we have managed to have some discussions with people working in the music industry. They hang around for a while until our questions become to hard to answer or when they cannot easily justify their actions. Then they disappear.

The Beatles: Rock Band and The Remasters is not available for Premium user ?!

@mnk0r: The Beatles don't wanna be a part of the digital world.

Loads of great music added, including jets new album which is great (at least in the uk anyway) is there any chance of feeder ever becoming available? Great work with S60 btw :)

Here's a webpage listing bands "missing in action" - artists removed from Spotify: http://pansentient.com/spotify-mia/

Erm, not really relevant but is there a system for reporting incorrect track names? I've just come across an album with all the names mixed up.

Bring back Muse's Black Holes...

Request: More from "Dave Matthews Band", especially the song "Crush".

This should be in SF http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQlj3V4fv0s

Come on, give us some good heavy rock like High on Fire or something from relapse records , not just commersial music. boring..

Despite Spotify being pretty high profile in the UK there is very little drum & bass or dubstep availble. Most of the main UK house labels are on there but no sign of Good Looking, Metalheadz, Hospital, Hyperdub, Tempa, Apple Pips, V Recordings etc. etc.

FIX: Spotify does not display the correct length of the song "True Faith ('94)" by "New Order". Please fix this.

Hell, alot of track added, but i dont see why some are remove then added and same thing over again, onfected mushrooms latest album have been going like that for a while... gone one day... there next day.. fix it ? as i understood this happend's to alot of artist's

According to muse.mu, the new Muse-album "The Resistance" should be available today on spotify. Where is it? Oh, and please bring back Black Holes and Revelations. :)

So much gloom! Rejoice Spotify users: Fleetwood Mac - Tango in Paris got added: Get In!

erm... Tango In the Night, that is... oops

Please add the Invaders must die album by Prodigy, to Spotify in Norway!!!!!!

I keep reading all these extra tracks you keep adding-but what I`m finding is that you don`t even have the old songs on here! What about Gene Pitney? You haven`t got some of his biggest hits including "That Girl Belongs to Yeaterday" and "I Must Be Seeing Things"!! I cannot understand why YouTube has got so many extra songs than you have- because they have the same agreements with the record companies that you have.

@feltan, any luck with 'black holes' yet ?, ive not tryed it yet so im not sure if its working.

@chriso132 - Nope. :C Still 'This album is currently not available'. I think that they have to compensate us by uploading their new album as 'danielf' said; According to muse.mu, the new Muse-album “The Resistance” should be available today on spotify. Where is it? :D

I always asked myself, are the amount of tracks available the same for every country, in which Spotify is available? Or are there differences? Which country has the most songs online?

@kenobel Well, I guess is the same for the available countries.

thats a lot of tracks
