First look at Spotify on S60

Today is turning into mobile day here at Spotify. You’ve had a few hours to play around with our iPhone and Android apps but we didn’t want to leave out all those people who have a phone that runs the S60 mobile platform.

So here is a first look at a demo of the Spotify running on S60 which is currently in development.

It’s an early version and we still have a fair bit of work to do before we can release it but we wanted to give you a little idea of what to expect. And like our other mobile apps, Spotify for S60 will be available for our premium subscribers.

Update: Spotify for Symbian is now available for download.

As has been asked in many other blog sections,is there any news on when the mobile apps will be available for Irish users, who have paid the same amount as others for the service? Is it negotiations with IRMA that are holding things up?

hi if you need a beta tester...please let me know...I'm a premium subscriber today...keep up the good work...

Great news! I imagine there'll be some limitations, at least for less high-end phones?

that's great!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Spotify, that is just superb. Thanks a lot!

Will it work on touchscreen - 5800 XM?? PLEASE!

Can't wait to test this out. Will you by any chance release early beta versions? A lot of people would be interested in testing :)

Will you create two versions, one for S60v3 and one for S60v5? Would love to see a v5-example too where the touchscreen is used instead of buttons!

Great app on a loosy mobile OS

:( Where is the WinMO version? Because of some lame company policies I only get WinMO based devices. Show us WinMO users some love please ..

As David Carrington said - if you need anyone to do some testing on a Beta version, let me know. I'm intending to upgrade to Premium the second the s60v5 version is released....

When is Spotify for the Squeezebox Duet coming?

Great news! I am really happy to be able to use Spotify on the iPhone today, but the phone/platform itself is really a joke. I can't even keep listening to the music while I reply to an incoming SMS. Spotify on a _real_phone_ like E52/E66/E71/E72 will rock my world.

Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you. I'll chip in with the Beta testing offer of course, just in case! P.S. I work in QA and have an E71, if that's of any interest :P.

That's great news, you're heading in the right direction. Any news of any development on the non-Symbian Java Platform? Phones like the Sony Ericsson W705 need some love too. Remember, we bought a "W" (walkman) class phone because we love music too.

"Great app on a loosy mobile OS" Incorrect. Symbian itself is the most advanced and powerful mobile OS, its the S60 GUI ontop which lacks. Symbian has features WM, Android and iPhone OS lack but if the S60 devs dont bother incorporating them, it makes the platform look "loose"

Both good to hear and to see! Question though. The demo is on a non touch phone. Are you working on both an app for touch and non touch? Looking forward to it getting launched! Keep it up!

How you prioritised iPhone and android over S60 is beyond me! Please get it done...

@ nutterguy. It's not so hard to understand why the prioritized the way they did. Apple Iphone and Android-phones are the hottest phones on the market.

About time u reply on this matter.. I might have to go premium agian real soon :) - NICE - Pleas comment on s60v3 vs s60v5 admin :D

I suppose releasing spotify mobile on niche platforms is a good way of road testing the technology before letting it loose on the mainstream. I can't wait - who knows - maybe Spotify going mobile will persuade Bob Dylan to return to the fold?

Great news! But we really need info or video about how this works on S60v5.

@orpon In terms of sold units iPhone really is not. When entering Nokia we talk volume. Huge volume. And with Nokia coming with their own app store Nokia is the potential for Spotify as I see it.

BlackBerry version next? =)

Marketing wise it was wise to concentrate efforts on the iPhone and Adriod apps first.. Nokia devices don't carry the same buzz.

Spotify, you are the awesome. I hope the subscriber numbers multiply because of these mobile releases :)

In many ways this is more impressive that Spotify on the iPhone and Android.

Sweet as(s) candy! Keep up the good work! I <3 Spotify!

This is going the right direction! Soon maybe even we Windows Mobile suckers end up having Spotify on the phone. Then atleast I could throw my old useless iPod out the window. Or I might just throw the WM phone out the window and buy an Android. ^^

And... What happen with Windows Mobile users? It's still the most common OS for smartphones in the world! Please, Spotify for Windows Mobile!

I don't even have an S60 device. I'm happily using Spotify on my iPhone at the moment. I still think it's great that you keep developing the whole concept and keep adding support for more platforms, this is what will make Spotify a great service. Oh, adding more music is also necessary, but why keep whining on a sunny day like this? :)

As many has said, If you need beta testers sign me up ;)

Any chance for a Spotify Maemo versión? Would be nice :)

When is Spotify coming for my old Seeburg jukebox? Please let me enjoy the wonders of internet music. I'm sure there is a massive request for it! Please Spotify, hear my prayers!

+1 for Spotify on Windows Mobile. Can you comment on if and when you are likely to develop here too? Windows Mobile does multi tasking correctly, so would be a good platform for an app which plays music in the background while you do other more productive things with the phone.

@pantern Sure Nokia sells more phones than Apple och HTC. But that doesnt change the fact that the Iphone and Android phones (mainly HTC Magic and Hero) are the hottest phones on the market. You can check by asking people with Nokia phones if they would like to change to an Iphone and vice versa. I willing to bet that a lot of people with Nokia would prefer an Iphone. But I don't think that many Iphone users would even consider changing to a Nokia. Same thing goes fort HTC Hero and Magic.

Wow, damn nice news, waiting forward on using it on my N97.

My dream turns real: you did not forget Android. thanks you very much !

Very cool :) Looking forward to this

Will this be availible for UIQ in the nearest future? I would love it on my SE G900 :D

How is it going with the Squeezebox app? Any progress? I would really really really appreciate Spotify on Squeezebox. Even more than I appreciate Spotify on iPhone. :D

Also volunteering for beta!

Make a version for java phones too!

You guys at Spotify are so mean. You tease us with this video demo of what looks like a truly stonking app, but you don't tell us whether we should expect to wait days, weeks or months to get our hands on it. Go on - manage our expectations !

Windows mobile, please ! :)

Thank you for the info! Can't wait to get it so I can switch to premium! Big Thanks!!! :D

does spotify work on my LG KM900 arena?

And please Maemo version too! Thats going to be my next platform... (waiting for my n900) :D

This sounds very great! I hope you'll make it axxessible with the Talks screen reader. I would like to beta-test it to see if it works great with talks :)
