Music catalogue updated with 73,142 tracks
It was a beautiful weekend and the office is a little quieter than most weeks but we have updated our music catalogue today. We added 5,998 albums and singles, in total 73,142 new tracks are now available.
A few highlights include:
- A lot of classic progressive rock from the Swedish label Silence Records which includes artists such as bob hund, Hedningarna and Samla Mammas Manna
- Battlefield by Jordin Sparks
- Song Or Suicide by Nomy
- The debut album by La Roux is now available in the UK
Additionally, the audio book Free which was previously only available in the UK is now available for all users.
For a full listing of today’s additions please have a look at the Google Doc. As with every update not all albums listed may be available in your country and some tracks previously available may no longer be playable due to regional restrictions.
Spotify Premium, Speech Debelle single and Q&A
British rapper Speech Debelle released her debut album, Speech Therapy, earlier this year to rave reviews. She was kind enough to do a little Q&A with us in support of her latest single, Better Days, which Spotify Premium users can listen to starting today. Wake up and check emails, head out to an interview followed by time in the studio then maybe go to a friend’s.
How’s the European tour going?
The tour is in October and at the moment I’m on the festival circuit, playing at Glastonbury, Latitude, Bestival and the Secret Garden Party.
Best/worst ever gig?
The best gig was Pussy Parlour at Glastonbury a few weeks ago, mad fun! I guess the worst was Dirty Boots at Glastonbury, only because it was the seventh gig in three days and I had lost my voice, not nice!
Describe your musical style in three words.
Neo melodic rap.
Who are your biggest influences?
Michael Jackson, Sizzla, Prince, Madonna.
What makes you happy?
Food, good company, classic songs not the new shit!
What makes you sad?
Choice FM, the top 10 UK singles and albums charts. Michael Jackson’s death.
What was the last lie you told?
I don’t tell lies!
Your last single - Go Then, Bye. Sounds like a tough situation. Did things resolve themselves?
Time resolves things, we still talk every once in a while but it’s not always appropriate anymore.
Favourite place to hang out?
The studio, and it seems the mechanics for the last week cause they can’t seem to fix my car stereo that they fitted!
Favourite city and why?
Right now I’d say London because it’s where the pound is. Saying that though I’ve been to St. Lucia and although pounds are what they don’t have and what they want, they still seem so much happier than us London folk!

My favorite song of all time, this is what my song ‘Daddies Little Girl’ is based on. The tempo and drum pattern at the beggining is identical.

It’s such an emotive song, the words, the passion in which he sings it, the choir, the progression and the constant snare! I also love the line, “I’m only human.”

From one of my fave Michael albums, the very underrated ‘Dangerous’. I love how he’s dancing, it’s hot!
Who Is It
Again off the ‘Dangerous’ album, Teddy Riley did his thing, the beat is on fire!
Don’t Stop ’til You Get Enough
If this don’t wanna make you dance, something’s wrong with your body! He was also so good looking in this video and he looked so happy.
Remember the Time
One of the best videos of all time. Teddy riley again on production, they were an amazing team.

Nice update folks. I don't really know where to make requests. But i would like to vote for spotify to maybe take in more music made for the video-game industry. The Konami section is well appreciated, as well as all the others that exist. You however had the soundtrack of Metal Gear Solid Portable OPS in the earlier days of Spotify. The music from the MGS games would be awesome, and i think that many others agree on that point. Go for game music ftw!
I agree with metalchef! More video-game music. Before the cut-down there was a few very good Amiga-music cd´s and even some good Nintendo 8-bit game-music.

73,142 new tracks is great, but how many have you removed? And where is the list of removed tracks? FOr example, you now have no Katie Melua albums - whereas there were a couple online just a few weeks ago. Hmmm....starting to wonder if this service is as good as it first appeared.

silverdad is somewhat right : part of Spotify success is built on mutual trust with its users, and this can vanish as fast as it came if you intend to stay silent on the numerous deletions that appeared these last weeks... while I wasn't impacted myself, I indeed have many friends whose playlists are now full of holes (ie nothing to do with regional restrictions)... we all know this is not your decision, but that's just NOT the point. you just can't keep removing stuff day after day and pretend nothing happens... we're sure not to the point of "Amazon vs Orwell" affair ;) but things get increasingly similar... so, either you list deleted stuff on artists/label request...or you stop putting stuff online BEFORE having an agreement with the concerned right owners...

I agree with johansone. I guess it is all about the labels... The new Prodigy album is nowhere to be seen (guess as it is not on XL). The older Pendulum would be good. As would be getting RAM Records, Moving Shadow, Good Looking Records, Rengade hardware back catalogues on here too. Also BT - Movement in Still life is not on here.
One thing that annoyed my about this update is that the album "Roadsinger" has been moved from Cat Stevens to Yusuf/Cat Stevens. I know him changing has name has complicated it all, but there's 3 'versions' of him up on Spotify (Cat Stevens, Yusuf Islam [Formerly Cat Stevens] & Yusuf/Cat Stevens), and it get's confusing. Especially confusing when the album moved, I thought it had been removed from Spotify. Actually, it's now just under a different name. A more graceful way of handling this would be nicer.

I wll probably be kicked by a lot of users but I feel the need to inform this I a running version 0.3.17 (49173). I can listen for 8 hours and more and never here an advertisement. Bug? And NO I don't have premium. So you should maby check your configs for the advertisment

@gondwana Spotify aren't happier than you then they remove something, they cannot do anything else, because the label is the copyright holder and can do whatever they want with their tracks. However, Spotify could be more careful to choice partners that know what they want, but this is hard.

@tysonsw - Maybe I'm getting your ads sent to me then? You will all say I'm bitching and moaning now but I'll have to say it anyways. I've pretty much stopped using Spotify lately for a couple of reasons. First, deletions of albums I listen to a lot. And secondly, ads, oh my the ads. Just a few days ago I was listening at work and I couldn't listen to more than 3-4 songs between ads. To add insult to injury it wasn't just one ad either. Not even commercial radio has that many ads. When I first started using Spotify I could listen for a good 40-60 minutes between each ad which was fine but now it's just getting too annoying.
