We are in the process of releasing a new version of Spotify, version 0.3.11. Changes for 0.3.11 include:
If you experience problems with the automatic update please download the latest version from our website.
You must log in to comment
Why did you remove the bug reporting menu, and where should we now file bug reports or suggest improvements? Thanks for all the good work!
The new version is much better, nice! But the green search-button, maybe it should be grey or something like that? It's a littel bit to strong color right now...
The green search button actually reminds me of unibets logo (http://www.unibet.com)... perhaps not a very good idea?
I'm not a fan at all of the way the software just updates itself without any interaction or notification of the user. It's a little bit too opaque; even a dialog box saying that the software had been updated would be a start.
You ought to have a feature where users can report broken songs, songs with the wrong title, albums with the wrong cover etc. Imo, that'd save you a lot of time, given that you're interested in having a database that is as correct as possible.
Yeah, the green search button is no good... re: http://is.gd/kvM6
The green button doesn't fit the overall graphic scheme in the app. Make it more opaque or grey.
I don't find green "wrong" since it's a) intended to draw attention and b) part of the Spotify color scheme, not just well used -- see also the logo color. ;)
I must agree about the green button is a bit strong. I also get a the U2's new new album in the right corner. Please do not start messing up the great UX that you have with Spotify.
I like the new button on the top right (for premium I guess), linking to U2's new album! Great!
Ok seriously, when are you going to implement a mini-bar view (for sitting on top of all other windows providing essential controls)? It's the only thing stopping Spotify from being a totally killer app.
I also agree that the green search button is a bit strong, maybe it should be in the same green color as the arrow linking to U2's album?
If you find bugs or have suggestions please visit our forums and report them there. We don't have a system in place to report broken songs or bad tags right now, we hope to have a more automatic system in place in the future so we can fix these.
The latest version for Mac wasn't on Download page yet :(
You've quietly added a behaviour that stops playing commercial when you lower the volume. Frankly speaking you've made not only me annoyed, but quite some number of people mad. Why didn't TV companies tape our faces to the screen or radio got welded to the ears? I'm going to start a public protest.
@andrey: Let me see now. You are angry because you want to be able to not listen to any ads <em>and</em> still use the program for free? What is your idea of how to pay the artists? Is it only me and my premium friends that should pay or should the ads also be a part of it?
Running Spotify i Wine works very well, but clicking on the ad's results in nothing. I know it's because of using Wine in Ubuntu, but a Linux version would help you with more sponsor money. Now I have to pay for premium version to help support this great program :-)
Andrey you don't want to listen to the adverts, well get a premium account then
It really sucks that the commercials pauses when lowering or muting the sound. It makes spotify almost useless, as a music player for me. It's also a pain in the ass that the commercials volume is twice as high as the songs volume. It might have felt ok with commercials if they was not played on such a high volume.
Apparently your supposed to update to 0.3.11 but when i install the latest from the web, it says 0.3.10, and when i start Spotify it starts to update again, resulting in failure. It says something about "update failure" and i need to change my proxy, something i havent changed or even touched. Please help me!
@gustavsundh: I had the exact same problem, but when i used a different browser then the one I use by default, i accually downloaded the right 0.3.11 installer. Your browser (or proxy) might have the 0.3.10 installer in the cache. Hope this helps!
I have the same problem too, every time I start Spotify, it tries and fails to update. Downloading using the link on the download page (https://www.spotify.com/en/download/windows/) at work (where we have a proxy) results in version 0.3.10 being downloaded. However, I can ssh to 3 different servers and have tried downloading https://www.spotify.com/download/Spotify%20Installer.exe from each of them, I always receive version 0.3.10. Is there a direct link to v0.3.11?
Looks like one of our web servers still had 0.3.10 loaded on it which was why some people couldn't download the newest version. We've fixed that and the latest version should now be available from our website for everyone. Sorry for the confusion.
Even though i do appreciate the search button, I have to jump on the bandwagon and say that the green one looks really out of place, especially in the OSX GUI. Make it grey, and instead of having the "u2-arrow" in that weird green you've got now, make it spotify-green. I also miss a option to "search within the search". Argh, feedback-item where art thou!
Thank you, much appreciated. I also found that if I clicked 'Log In' repeatedly, it would eventually give up trying (and failing) to update, but log me in anyway. Many thanks.
Nice touch on the updating searches. I just have a small complaint, I paid for premium to avoid the ads, why do I have the UI cluttered with the U2 link? If I wanted to listen to U2 I would search for them.
It would be cool if there would be a page or summit where we could tell you what song(s) we need you to upload because some song that i like arnt there! anyway the software is class thanks
The U2 ad sucks, I have premium because I hate ads, so this sucks. You could instead have more detailed lists of added albums every week somewhere, that would be nice, preferably organized by genre or label. If something like that already exists, somebody please show me where it is :) I also would like to ask again why the group "Svenska Akademien" is not available in Sweden, when it is a Swedish band singing only in Swedish. I would also like to point out that you have a flaw in your system of extraction featured artist from song titles and artists, because every song by the group "Afasi & Filthy" shows as only Afasi, and with Filthy as a featuring artist, this is wrong. I would lastly like to say that the group Looptroop Rockers (formerly Looptroop), would very much like to see their albums on spotify (you had the Looptroop albums before), but there seems to be some problems in the communication between you. Anyway, please add Looptroop and Looptroop Rockers albums, or at least talk to Looptroop Rockers or their record DSVG/Bad Taste Records about it.
Does this blog have an RSS feed?
@kyuss: This should work. http://www.spotify.com/blog/feed/
Or maybe not.. hmm.. strange... sorry about that. Feel free to remove my two latest posts here.
@fewmanchu: Yeah, that's what I thought, but it didn't so I had to ask. It's working now though.
When you serch for the knife it comes up an album named the gloomy side of things that The Knife hasent done, the knife i pop and that album is deathmetal.
is pop*
please consider increasing the line spacing for the review / biography text to something like 1.5 - it's quite difficult to read at the moment. thank you! :o)
I'm ok with the top right U2 link if it meant that Interscope paid top dollars to Spotify. Getting an ad into the "ad-free" premium account should cost, HEFTILY!
And I like to second the bug report from kenonweed @15:43. Having two separate bands with the same name is stupid! Please patch your software and release a new version ASAP!
hello again. I ask them if they have future plans to the lyrics of the songs of spotify; was a great idea!
Here's a list of all Spotify resources: http://afront.blogspot.com/2009/02/spotify-resources.html It lists and links to Spotify applications, plug-ins, blogs, news sites, playlist sites, official resources, and other related links.
Why remove the suggestions/bug report? and what is that green button doing there?! back to drawingboard!
Silent updates? No fun, not at all. A small notice please... Starting Spotify on a restricted account, Vista, throws up an admin rights dialog. On an admin account I guess an UAC dialog appears. A bit scary.
The new Spotify 0.3.11 doesn't work on my computer! It crashes immediately, every time I open it. This probably has something to do with my computer. But, would it be possible just to run the older version of Spotify, which does work? Otherwise, some of us, including others who might have similar problems with their computers as I do, will not be able to run Spotify.
Oh, good, you removed the search button! Many ++++! Cheers, Kanon! Ni tog bort sökknappen, många ++++!
Sharing playlists is great! But if the name of the playlist is too long, you only see the first part of the name. There is no way to see the whole name, is there? Please consider putting the name of the playlist in the Playlist bar (above track, artist etc), or have the name autoscroll, like song names do in the lower left corner.
It's nice with updates, but I'm somewhat dissapointed with the fact that the problem with scrobling from behind a proxy still isn't fixed.
@limpan_: The search button is not removed. It's just that it's not visible when the search field is empty. As soon as you type anything in the search field the green search button appears.
1. A little popup/tooltip/hint or (i)info or '?' button right near the search field with just the SIMPLEST EXAMPLE of advanced search like genre: metal etc would be worth 1000 words. 2. I'm a newbie using Spotify for 10 mins; so far it is at least 100x better than I expected. At first I thought'who needs yet another streaming service'; but (nearly) infinite library, smooth interface, fast search and high quality makes it all work. 3. 'No ads vs ads' is less of an issue for me than (wait for it) 'SUPER HIGH QUALITY' vs 'regular'. People would pay for audiophile quality. 4. I hope your library is already encoded at the maximum lossless quality and then transcoded - you don't wanna do that encoding all over again next year!! 5. Good luck, guys - great stuff!
Failed to update bla bla bla... then i have to change proxy settings. When will this be fixed?
In a future release could you make it possible to add songs from the hard-drive to a playlist? So we don't have to stop spotify to play a song from the HDD for any song that isn't avilable through spotify? Cheers
There are now at least two versions of 0.3.11. 0.3.11.12849 20 February 2009 14:41:45 0.3.11.13065 25 February 2009 19:56:58 I know most people won’t notice, but not every one runs a user account with permission to overwrite the Spotify executable. Would you please consider putting the full version number of the latest version on the manual download pages. It might also be better if the installer had the full version number. The installers for both of the above say 0.3.11, and no more. There have been comments above recounting problems getting the right version and Andres wrote on Get Satisfaction that, at one point, different Spotify servers had different latest version numbers for the client. Having hidden version changes only complicates issues like these.
