Independent music is an essential part of Spotify. Since day one we’ve been extremely proud to work with a number of great indie artists and labels and we’re really happy to support Independents Day 2009 which is running from July 4th-11th and is a worldwide celebration of great indie music, with a lot of gigs going on across Europe and the rest of the world.
As a way to highlight some of the amazing independent acts out there we’ve hooked up with ShareMyPlaylists.com to come up with a series of indie focused playlists, so check out the ID09 page that they’ve set up for some great tunes.
The focus of celebrations this week will be a series of gigs at London’s prestigious ICA venue between the 6th and 10th July, each night curated by a different renowned independent label, including Bella Union, Fat Cat Records / One Little Indian, Matador/XL and Ninja Tune. A fifth night will be curated by iconic independent music store, Rough Trade East.
Hotly tipped and established acts performing throughout the week will include: Daedelus, The Twilight Sad, We Were Promised Jetpacks, Terry Lynn, St. Vincent, My Latest Novel, Sleeping States, Cymbals Eat Guitars, Joe Gideon & The Shark, Blue Roses, DJ Food, Joe Gideon & The Shark, King Cannibal, Cursor Miner, Here We Go Magic, Chimes and Bells, Kill It Kid and Grasscut.

Indie music is the shit! Viktor @ www.BeSpotify.com
sharemyplaylists.com is really not so funny/useful when half the songs are "not available in your country" :/
I really really dislike to college-american-pretentious-guy that reads the spotify ads, he's so like "here let me help you with some really really basic stuff" – makes me want to go back to itunes. I guess the idea is to soft-force me into buying a pass instead but i wont budge, not yet :) Please change it.
ooer...never heard of this festival before and I've been involved with indie musicians for years..tell em to give me a shout as we have over a hundred of the best indie bands in the whole world on theryanoriain22.com without any regional problems. The difference between Spotty and iTuny is Spotify pay indie bands per play so indie bands can (hopefully) still afford to keep playing.
hate the indie soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much
i mean indie
