"My name is Erik Hartwig and I'm born and raised in Stockholm. I have always been interested in computers and the master program Computer Science and Technology at KTH was an obvious choice.
The best thing about working at Spotify as a software engineer is that you're able to influence what you are doing and the future of the product.
Before joining Spotify I worked at BEA Systems with the JRockit JVM. It was a job and a company that differs from Spotify in many ways and I'm glad to have experienced a different work culture, routines and products. It gives me perspective.
One of my most interesting projects here at Spotify was working on the Spotify iPhone client. We had two master thesis students that had built a prototype, but it was far from production ready. Me and a friend here at Spotify happened to have iPhones, so we ended up on that project. I had hardly done any GUI programming and certainly no Objective-C, but it was really fun and an exciting challenge.
I think the most amazing experience working at Spotify is that most people I meet know the product and have a very strong relation to it. It's fun to do something that people actually care about.
And the bombshell…
"I'm actually not a big music fan. I seldom listen to music at home or when I work. This might sound strange coming from someone working at a music company, but from a technical point of view it's just binary data."
But it's nice binary data.
