Drowned in August 2010

August was a strange month for releases. Festivals and the Arcade Fire (strangely absent from Spotify), the fantastic Scott Pilgrim film soundtrack (click to read our interview with the film’s star Michael Cera and director Edgar Wright) and Klaxons kind of overshadowed a lot of really interesting smaller releases but then again, there weren’t a great deal of album of the year contenders. Meanwhile, there were lots of great singles from the likes of Everything Everything and Gonzales. Click here to play and explore this month’s playlist.

Dover vuelven en Octubre con un nuevo álbum de estudio. Ellos mismos lo están contando todo a través de su página en Facebook (échale un vistazo en www.facebook.com/Dover) y no dejes de visitar su renovada Web (muy pronto).

“Dannayá” es el single de adelanto, que se puede escuchar en Spotify desde el Jueves 19 de Agosto.

Undiscovered Prince
The Purple One is back with a new album, 20Ten, which he once again decided to give away for free in some daily rag or other, and to celebrate SMP’s head honcho kieron has put together this brilliant playlist which, in his own words, is “dedicated to some of the best tracks to come out of Paisley Park over the years.” A must for all Prince fans featuring album tracks, remixes and B-sides.

We’ve been fans of Facebook for a long time now, so much so that we looked to them for inspiration when building our own social features.

Yesterday they reached a big milestone, 500 million users, and to celebrate they’re collecting stories from their users and asking which ones inspire them. We’re happy to take a small part in this and we’re asking our users to share their music stories with the new Stories tab on our Facebook page.

So if you’ve found a new favourite band after seeing them in your friend’s top artists, attended an amazing festival or maybe you even found love after someone dropped a track in your Spotify inbox - please feel free to share the story.

We’ve been a little quieter recently on the new music front but we should be getting back into a regular rhythm, to kick off we’ve got a nice size update to let you know about. We added 7856 albums and singles, in total 96,964 new tracks are now available.

A few highlights include:

• Billy Talent III by Billy Talent
• Artwork by The Used
• A number of releases from Labrador Records
• A bunch of classic albums from the Meat Puppets

It’s a big list so I’ve broken out releases from The Orchard into one sheet and all other releases into a second Google doc. As with every update not all albums listed may be available in your country and some tracks previously available may no longer be playable due to regional restrictions.

7 Worlds Collide was a live album released in 2001 by New Zealand singer/songwriter, Neil Finn. In December of 2008 the 7 Worlds Collide line up reconvened to record a charity album for Oxfam.

Starting today Spotify Premium users in the UK can listen exclusively to the new album, The Sun Came Out, before it’s released. Familiar faces from the original album abound, Johnny Marr, Ed O’Brien and Phil Selway of Radiohead and the likes of KT Tunstall and Wilco are all included.

Just a small little update to get your week started. We added 119 albums and singles, in total 1,080 new tracks are now available.
